Thanks for your kind comments. To be honest, with some of the more laborious tasks I get fed up half way through, but it's the thought of the finished project that helps to get me re-motivated. It's incredibly satisfying when I can stand back and look the end product and be pleased with myself. I don't want to sound arrogant, but I think I can be pleased, and dare I suggest proud too, with how the engine looks now compared to how it was.

Keep up the good work with your Capri fleet, I enjoy reading your updates.

I can definitely relate to the giving up halfway through, but you can most certainly be pleased and proud with your results - it looks amazing.

I use a DIY kit I got from Gateros Plating on Ebay.
I have recently bought a bench power supply to use while plating. That produces a more consistent current than their suggested means of a battery charger and that makes the job easy.

Hi Tom,
The last time I went to a Ford dealer to check on stock levels of the white ones, the parts man told me that they had a new FINIS code. No problem I thought, until he brought out a black filter. It looks as though the white ones are obsolete now.
I bought a box of 10 from a Ford main dealer that was selling them on Ebay. They worked out at £6.50 each, I think that was a bargain.

Thanks Andrew, I’ve looked at the Gateros kits they look ok and have good reviews. I looked at a couple of others too but i suspect they’re all pretty similar really and the results are determined by the ability of the user more than anything. It’s definitely something I fancy doing, a lot of reproduction bolts etc. are available but it’s more satisfying to do jobs like this rather than simply buying new.

The Gateros kit is a good starting point for zinc plating. It might save a few pounds if you buy the essentials direct from their website (chemicals and zinc) and sourced the other parts of the kit from elsewhere if you don't already own them (PPE, sealable containers, power supply, copper wire etc). Some parts supplied in the kits like he air pump and heater aren't essential to the zinc plating process.

It's surprising what results can be achieved with zinc plating. For smaller items like nuts and bolts it's really quick and easy.
I wrote a thread about it on here, although looking through it now, the photos of the finished items aren't the best.
