Hi John,
Thanks for your kind comments.
I've had the sump baffle welded today by the chap in my local garage. He did it while I waited and wouldn't take a penny in payment. I owe him one! :D
There's a few cars on this forum that are my inspiration, including your own. I'll post proper photos of the engine soon.

Stunning, very impressed! I was thinking about doing this with the 3.0 but needed some motivation which I think I've found now!

Impressive looking work Andrew. Bit extreme for just a cracked casting but there you go!

The trouble is Peter, once you make a bit of something look OK, it makes the not so good bits look terrible in comparison. We can't have that now, can we?

Andrew, that engine looks absolutely brilliant!!! ;)

Where did you buy this white Motorcraft oil filter? I buy it from Motomobil (Germany) regularly, but this year they sent me black ones Motorcraft instead of white. They probably don't have white ones on stock no more. Black ones are newer, I think.

Look forward to seeing it sometime, will have to keep my bonnet closed to conceal the :turd: engine bay

Hi Tom,
The last time I went to a Ford dealer to check on stock levels of the white ones, the parts man told me that they had a new FINIS code. No problem I thought, until he brought out a black filter. It looks as though the white ones are obsolete now.
I bought a box of 10 from a Ford main dealer that was selling them on Ebay. They worked out at £6.50 each, I think that was a bargain.

Thanks for your comment, Andy!
I'm pleased with the way it's ended up but there was more work involved than it looks. It wasn't a quick spray over with some aerosol, I completely stripped the block back to bare metal to be repainted. I have also replaced all the core plugs, bar one, and replaced all of the seals and gaskets. All the nuts and bolts have been re-zinc plated and look as good as new. All the ancillary parts have been stripped back and repainted. I have also treated myself to a new inlet manifold that has been blasted back to a new appearance, and finally some powder coated rocker covers. I've even gone to the trouble of reproducing a sticker for the oil cooler.
I have plenty more upgrades that I will post details about at a later date.

I don't believe that you need to keep your bonnet closed though, as your car is one of the very best out there.

Cheers,
Andrew.

Thanks for info. ;)
I still have 3pcs of white ones (and 2 new black ones), but I will check ebay.

Yes, I looked everywhere for a Pinto but they are so sought after I couldn't find one anywhere. I suppose I'll have to stick the old Cologne back in now!

It's certainly paid off Andrew! Fair play for going to the effort of doing it, I can't imagine it was an easy job getting it done and all credit to you for taking it on - very jealous!

Hi Danny,
Thanks for your kind comments. To be honest, with some of the more laborious tasks I get fed up half way through, but it's the thought of the finished project that helps to get me re-motivated. It's incredibly satisfying when I can stand back and look the end product and be pleased with myself. I don't want to sound arrogant, but I think I can be pleased, and dare I suggest proud too, with how the engine looks now compared to how it was.

Keep up the good work with your Capri fleet, I enjoy reading your updates.

Andrew.
