So today I was looking on eBay and a question that come up when young nick was restoring his boot and jack .
So for many years I have used a rag so the spanner stops banging on the jack when driving as I did in my last Capri .

But wait I spotted this today please tell me that I am not the only one that did not know the spanner went here ...

I never use the original jack. I use a trolley jack when I'm in the garage, but I also carry a scissor jack in the car for emergencies away from home.

Mine has a scissor jack instead of the standard one, but I carry the trolley jack too.

I did that fir quite a while, but I decided that a trolley jack takes up too much valuable boot space.

It's a scissor jack for me too and a block of wood which I carry. Lifts nicely under the frame rails/box sections. I wouldn't want to risk the standard jack method on 30 year old metal, it seems dodgy to me even when new. It only has to go wrong once and that's it, would make a right mess.

I carry an extendable wrench too in place of the tiny standard one.

I didn't think you were supposed to undo bolts/nuts with a torque wrench.

Now that’s funny you say that as we had our bus serviced at home and they changed the brake pads I noticed that they had to use a wrench on the wheels . Might be because it’s a over 3 tons ?

It's not something I'd heard of before?

Top search on google says

"7. Using torque wrenches for undoing

So long as users operate with caution and do not exceed the maximum torque, most torque wrenches can be used for undoing. However, if the bolt will not free within the maximum torque of the wrench, another tool should be used instead. By exceeding the maximum torque limit during a bolt loosening you can affect the wrench accuracy, causing problems for future use. If in any doubt, use another tool for loosening bolts."

Doesn't mean it's gospel but I've never had any problems with it, I never struggle to get the wheels off to the extent that the torque wrench clicks, it's just massive so can get plenty of force behind it rather than trying to use something small I can't get a decent grip on

I've just checked the instructions for my torque wrench and it confirms what you wrote. It's fine to use mine for undoing nuts as long as the maximum torque is not exceeded.

I have seen it often, that undoing using a torque can affect it's calibration. And the reason that a torque wrench is reversible is for tightening a left hand thread, rather than undoing.

Depends what you read and accept I guess! Personally, I don't undo with mine as there is no real need to, it's important to not risk it's calibration and you can get an extendable wheel wrench for less than a tenner. There is no caution required and no risk and takes up less space.
