6x4 front door speakers

Post by Jasonmarie »

So how many times is this question asked and the simple answer is No one stocks them accept a place in the USA which will cost around £175 pounds .
So after a chat with John I thought my only way forward Was to keep the front grills and the car standard is the USA way .

But I discovered something at the weekend and found a speaker here in the U.K. that fits and works and you can keep the car looking standard .
From here https://www.raysmith.co.uk/retrosound-4 ... -463n.html
Cost is £79.99 and here is one I have fitted today .

The old with new only a nats cock in it .

Image
The back as it keeps the speaker as standard as you can get I may not take the other door card off as it’s such a easy fit .

Image

All fitted back just speaker cover to clip on .

So have tested and that bad base sound is only coming from the other door so I am a happy bunny and just thanks to this forum and John on my front door speaker . Also Danny it’s another add now to A4 list

Hope this helps .

Hi Jason,
That's a great find, thanks for posting the details.
Those speakers seem to be just what we've been looking for, and with a terrific saving over the American speakers to boot.

Andrew.

Andrew how long have we been all looking on here yes they fit and do the job . I really thought the only way was to get the USA speakers that John did as I searched everywhere and at the weekend I got a email from the company saying they have speakers in stock .
I am so happy as my drivers speaker was really buzzing , I took the door card off to really make sure but could have left that on as its a straight swap and yes the window goes up and down as you can keep the rear speaker plastic plate .

No a really easy swap over job .

Unfortunately for me yes it is, the front speaker in my GL has stopped working entirely so will have to add this to the list!

Cheers for the heads up

I bought these, should be OK unless you've got some high powered system

No i looked everywhere I did get the link to work they are 2mm wider then mine so you might have to cut the back out . But good find . The ones I have are 150w each with a low to mid range . Where the cheaper pair are just 15w so the same as the ford speaker but not 30+ years old .

So this morning I fitted the other speaker and did some cleaning inside with my new detailed brushes from eBay that work as good as the autoglym ones .
Yes the sound is a lot better no more base out noise , I am very pleased with them . I might be bending John ears again as I wonder what I could get with just adding a equaliser? ( sorry John )
I have also bought a outside cover so I can leave it on the drive a bit more and not worry about the rain at night .

Picture and link to brushes only £3.69 for five

Hey Jason,

Cracking find there fella.... Amazing!!! I am slightly :crying: as I had actually asked Ray Smith if they had that very size speaker over a Year ago when I started my hunt and they hadn't!!!

I used them for my Radio Head, this too is Retrosound and I really do like their products, so if this speaker is as good as the Head unit, then they'll do the job and then some!!! Nice one fella!!!!

This is the Head I'm using for better sound quality, I put the USB port below the steering wheel where the trim meets the under cover, so as not to drill any new holes...
ImageRetrosound by John Taylor, on Flickr

I still have the original Radio / Cassette player to go back to stock if I ever need to, but if you like your sounds when driving, I can thoroughly recomend these head units. Once again, great find on the Speaker Jason, I'm actually tempted to get a set myself as it will be a great match to the head as opposed to that American set I got which are only Dual Cone!!!

Cheers Jason, all the very best for now,

John...

John I did not know you had the headunit as I have been looking and yes I love my music , it does look the part and so easy to use . Also I can add a amp .
I looked lastyear for speakers with the company and just got a email at the weekend I thought at £79 that’s a saving and they really do fit well and sound really good . But I know a new headunit will make them speakers a lot better .
I better start saving my penny’s for a new headunit then . I noticed they do one with DAB radio at £339 also a nice amp and hide that in the glovebox .
What have you started ?

Hi Jason,

I also have this waiting to go in, I was going to fit it when I did the speakers. I think I mentioned this to you the other week at the CCI???

ImageRetrosound Amp by John Taylor, on Flickr

It really is small enough to go behind the panel in the centre by the heater matrix!!! (I beleive...) And being Retrosound, just plugs straight in!!! But you'll never know it's there....

I can't say how good the Retrosound Head is if you want to keep from cutting your Dash... Of course you can get much better Heads and hide them in your glove box or cut the dash, but I wanted to keep the Glove Box as I use it quite a lot and I could not bring myself to cut another Dash now as I used to!!!

Coupled to this,
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Premium-Chro ... xyQj9RQSuj

which is basically the original fitted by Ford, the only difference I noticed was the Head is not Domed but flat instead, but it has the very small diameter base to the wing!!! A bit costly but worth it to keep the original look I recon???

Mine burnt out so I had to replace it over a Year ago and this has been perfect to date!!!
Go on Jason.... You know you want to!!!!
:D :D :D
Cheers,

John...

Yes I noticed all the stuff on the web site and it’s hidden as well so should give the Capri a good update in music .
I will have to start saving .

So have been trying out them front speakers and they are really working well and now I wonder if I should pay a little more for the rears and get the retrosound as the 150w alpines I have seem to be a little tinneee now . But I do use the cassette adapter but thought I will try a FM transmitter with bluethooth so have pick this little device up from Amazon .

I will give it a go for the next month and let you all know how it goes .

Still think I will be joining John with a new head unit and Amp .......

Hi Jason,
The FM transmitters are excellent if you are staying in one area. You will be able to tune it in to a frequency that isn't used by an FM radio station in that area. However, on a long journey you will find that you constantly have to keep searching for an unused frequency to avoid interference. I've tried in vain to find an FM frequency that is not used by any broadcaster. That's why I'm still using a cassette adaptor instead.

Andrew.
