Adjustable Bonnet Stops

Post by Fordoholic Nick »

Hi chaps,

Just another little job I been meaning to do...replace the adjustable bonnet stops as mine were pretty much beyond saving. They were bent, rusted badly and lock nut seized so no way to lock them in place. They took a bit to get them out as said they were both rusted and bent and I did not want to damage the thread in the panel. Thankfully I was able to 'carefully' force them out without any damage to panel thread.

They don't look too bad in this pic but trust me they were bad. One had an "S" bend in it

The new ones

With rubbers of course

Now to tidy up the fixing thread on panel. Bit of primer

Then top coat

Then refit new stops. I greased them up and screwed them in and out a few times to get the thead nicely greased and of course to check the new fittings threaded on nicely, which they did ! !

Quick wipe with a cloth as got a bit dusty and job done :)

This is one of the areas on a Capri that is extremely prone to collecting water as they is a bit of a 'dip' around the fixings, especially when you wash the car so its no surprise that the old ones were so bad. Years of water seeping down without being dried off. I had been putting tissues around the stops to soak up the water but obviously these were on for so long the damage had already been done. Now I can adjust them by hand very easily.

As said a very tiny little job but still very satisfying to get new ones fitted at last ! Might be worth checking yours too as they could be ready for replacing too, before they get seized on !!

All the best

Nick

Hi Nick,
Good job, the new jobbies look great, and that's another job ticked off your to-do list. :D As your car is now like new, there can't be many more jobs that you have left to do!
