2.8 Injection Problems

Post by JayeJulia »

Our Cherry Capri has problems with the fuel injection system where is runs for a short while then totally dies. The injection pipes are all moving as if under stress in the short time that it does run. The car has been laid up in a garage since the 90's and it has needed coaxing back to life.

Our local Ford specialist suggests that the injection control unit and starter unit needs servicing by a specialist.

Options being sought:

1. Does anyone have a working injection system that they are willing to sell?
2. Does anyone know where I can obtain refurbished parts?
3. Does anyone know of somebody who refurbs 2.8i injection systems???

Many thanks

Jaye

Hi,
There is a company called ATP that refurbish injection parts, such as the fuel distributor.
They are not cheap though, so before you splash out any cash it is worth reading this page:
http://www.zeepoort.nl/jetronic/K-Jetro ... oting.html
There is plenty of useful info on that site, including a troubleshooter.

Good luck,
Andrew.

The most common problem with cars not used for some while is that the plunger in the metering head sticks. To check you need to disconnect all the fuel pipes from the top and undo the three screws that hold the head on to the main body. Carefully lift it off and turn it over, there is a metal plunger in the centre which should be free moving and drop out under gravity.

It's also worth removing the larger connector on the warm up regulator. There are a series of gauze filters underneath that clog up sometimes.

:) :) My thanks to help on the forum, the injection problem has now been resolved and the engine is running sweet for the first time in over ten years... The warm start unit was cleaned up where I suspect that the vacumn was blocked.. Also sticking plunger in the metering head...
