I am lying here on a beach in Kerry, Ireland. The missus has dropped off asleep so thought I would sneak onto the forum for a quick catch up with your resto Des.

You chaps aint hanging around but have come to know this where Steve is involved. Great work. Must be very exciting to strip it down completely Des :)

Looking forward to more updates soon.

As said I am lying on a sun drenched beach in Kerry right now. This time tomorrow I will be at Santa Pod :D

All the best chaps

So whilst the shell is away we decided to have a look at the engine... Initial plan was covert the heads to unleaded etc and although my original compression tests were showing 120 - 130 readings I've never been happy with it but now is a chance to take a look...

The top end had obviously been apart in the past, cheap gaskets used to rebuild and head bolts either easy to remove or over tightened not a total disaster and then as you will see from the pic piston number 6 has a chunk missing!! Somone obviously dropped something in there, probably a washer that fortunately disintergrated over time as much else would have caused real damage..

So we will replace everything we need to as its a total strip now and Steve doesn't hang about....:D

Hi Des,
Good job you checked it :o

As you've gone this far it's false economy not to do it all properly this time :)

Hi Mike

All I can say is to date I'm really enjoying the whole process.... :D

I've just read a couple of my previous posts and will point out that Steve and I decided on the plan (changeable) and he does all the work... I may have and no doubt will use the Royal "We" on occasion.... :xd:

Yep know what you mean Des. Steve is doing the work. I know he reads the forum, what I meant was good work to you for going for it and for deciding to go the whole hog and strip the engine. Could just have taken it out and put it back.

Rest of the kudos goes to Steve :)

Nice work and good decision to go full hog - don't see the point in half hearted restorations . :)

Called in to see Steve this morning, the block was cleaned and base coated then Ford Grey top coats applied. Obviously a few different ways of doing this but starting to look the part now... :D

Looking good! Any news on the body work?

Is that VHT engine enamel spray in Ford grey by any chance? I just ordered the same stuff for mine.

Feels like more Andy but Steve doesn't need any pushing he's quite good at multitasking (for a bloke)... :D
