Thanks guys, yes it' seems to be in great condition there are a few areas of rot to cut out which I will post pics of later. The great thing with soda blasting is you get right down to the nitty gritty and all the ugly bits are uncovered like it or not, I admit to having a few sleepless nights but really looking forward to seeing it on Friday :D

Hi Des,

Mate, here are the pictures you asked me to post up of the front end of my Laser so you can get an idea of how the Black grill and headlamp surrounds looks against the Lacquer Red paintwork. I rolled it out of the garage a little so the light was better but as a massive Black cloud was forming overhead so I did not want to get too carried away

Hope these help you fella :)

I found this picture in my archives which also shows the Black wing mirrors too Des...

Des I hope these help you mate. Obviously I am always going to champion the "Black" grill/mirrors look as I really do think it sets off the front end a treat, but as said this of course is my personal opinion, but having said this Johns stunning Lacquer Red 2.8i Special with the colour coded grill/mirrors I really like this too and it does look superb.

Anyhow Des, whatever you decide your 2.8i Special is really going to be a proper show stopper :D

All the best mate

Nick

Hi Nick

Fella your a star turn.. :D

I loved the look of yours with the black grill and H/light surrounds when I saw it earlier this year. I understand the colour coded grill etc on the special was available as an option so reverting to black is something I'm considering seriously. I think it particularly works with the Lacquer Red, again it was Steve who brought this to the table for me to consider, we are a long way off paint so I've time to finally make my mind up....

Cheers, Des

Glad to help Des,

I personally really like the contrast the grill and H/light surrounds have being a different colour, but whatever you decide upon your 2.8i Special will be a stunner :)

All the best

Hi Des,
Body coloured mirrors, bonnet trim, grille and headlight surrounds were standard fitment on the Special.

Although that was how the car would have left the factory, I agree with the comments that satin black looks better as it contrasts against the colour of the paintwork, and also matches the bumpers.

Decisions, decisions!! :D

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi All, Des....

To help you out with my opinion... I love the Look of the standard Body Color Light Bezzles and Grill + Lip. But I also love the Satin Black Bezzles, Grill & Lip. So for me, I have finally decided to buy a Set of Black and fit them as and when I feel like a change, then change it back when the Mood takes me.

Grill, 2 Mins approx to Swap
Bezzles, 5 Mins approx to Swap, as they can be tricky tweaking them past the Wing.
Lip. Not changed one of these yet, but it's only a few little nuts, so WD-40 and next time should take all of 5 Mins???

Hope this helps you Des,   cheers,

John...

Thanks very much for the info Andrew and both opinions guys... :D

Cracking idea re the two sets John as I'm 95% sure I'm going down the satin black route to start with. As always with rebuilds there are 1001 decisions to make but in the main it's a real joy. I will make the 2.8 mine whilst keeping it mostly original.... (I hope)... :xd:

Few more shots...

But then again, I like it all colour coded.

I like the look of Nick's but personally I prefer it matching. :D

Very nice ,

As for the grill debate, they both look good. Keeping mine colour coded as that's how it was made. I like John's idea though, may start looking for a spare ;)

Capri is looking nice & solid Des, as said, you can't really get it wrong with the grille, both options suit Specials & Lasers. Yours is coming along nicely.

Steve wasn't happy with one of the strengthening plates, have to say it looked spot on at first sight.... Then he removed both plates one of which is spotless the other isn't.

Could say we should have done this before being soda blasted but he's leaving no stone unturned and it's not as bad as it looks.

He's determine to get to the bottom of any rust issues...
