Body work update:

Ali (Nomie) Macleod works alongside his father in Nomies Bodyshop on the Isle of Lewis and he's ford daft!!. He's done a number of outstanding builds so thought I'd maybe share some of his work with you guys!.
His skill and enthusiasm makes him the perfect choice for my Capri and I'm very happy that he decided to take the project on.

Some of Ali's work:

He took this:

And produced this:

Before!!

And after WOW :applaud:

This is interesting for his son !!

I love this though :

Im very luck to have him onboard with the capri

The Capri now!!

Ali was not happy with the slight ripples in the body work so he's spent alot of time trying to sort it out!

After its all rubbed off :

Rear arch that had some issues was repaired and then a slight skim:

Under side has had all the rusty wire wheeled, and blasted back. The rust treated and etch primed. This will be follow later by 2k primer, Upol Raptor and final gloss coat.

Still to be finished but starting to take shape

Really looking forward to seeing the car in paint 8-)

Car looking great :D its the only way to do it properly in he first place.
From the pics of the car when you bought it, you wouldn't know it had these little flaws.
Good to know there are still people out there doing quality work :D

Great work going on there. It goes to show what needs to be done if you have a very good car but want to take it up a level. That 9/10 ths to 10/10 ths is a lot of work.

Some more updates:

Ali Macleod has been very busy and Im delighted with his attention to detail and the progress he's making

Rear arches repaired and skimmed

Image

Drivers door had some rot in lower corner and bonnet was very rippled all prepped:

Image
Image

Underside in primer where needed:

Image

Body panels in primer:

Image

Underside in raptor, this will be overcoated with finish:

Image

the Upol Raptor has been taken up around all of the edges for protection:

Image

Image

Inside in finish:

Image

Image

All edges around the doors , shuts, wings and tail gate are in finish now and Ali is hanging everything ready for wet and dry block sanding and final painting.

Image

Image

The car was fairly good already for those that knew it but now its super straight and well protected.
The original colour was silver and I was wondering if signal orange was the way to go but after seeing the finish on the inside I think it was the right choice.
Engine updates to follow

Hope you all like :)

Hi,
Super work so far, Ali is definitely the right man for the job. The finished work is going to be something to behold.
It must have been a difficult decision to go with signal orange, given that it wasn't the original colour, but I think you've made the right choice.

Andrew.

Engine Update:

Paul has been working away and the engine almost fully assembled with only some ancillaries to be assembled and bench run.
I ran a business for some months remapping cars so I will complete the fuel set up on the road using my wide band and a set of det cans. Paul will give me some pointers as more used to changing the fuel tables on the lap top than having to alter jets!!

The carb be will replaced for a new item as you could get the old unit to stick in partial open positions due to axial play in the choke shafts causing the drive gears to jam.

Paul has fitted a rally spec cam of his own design which still allows for no interference with standard pistons but it was found that the 3.0 valve springs were coil bound so these have been replaced with pinto HD items.

Heads have had unleaded conversion and all valves ground and lapped with some porting.

Its never going to be a race car but Paul says there will a noticeable difference above 3500 rpm

Block soda blasted, measured, honed and painted.

Top end assembled with HD pinto springs
Image

Proper timing gear fitted!
Image

I asked Paul to keep it looking clean but not to much bling, Im very happy with this as it looks just right IMHO

More to follow when its built

Cheers

Lucky night tonight!!...... Some updates on the body work

Ali as always has done and outstanding job and I don't know enough about painting or prepping a car to do him justice. His last comment to me was he had no finger print left from all the block sanding!

The car has had a total of five litres!!!! of paint on the outside of the shell and I nearly collapsed when he sent me a picture of it painted white again!! "You did say you wanted it white didn't you"
He painted the shell white with 2 coats of 2k prior to 5 coats of 2k orange finish!!
Its not been flattened yet and with the amount of paint their is slight orange peel Ali says.....Looks bloody good to me :D

I'm very very happy and delighted we have had the chance to preserve an iconic old skool ford (One of the best he's ever seen say Ali!!)

Hope you enjoy....

Car painted white again ......WHAT!!

I hope you all like. Im very happy with everything about this and looking forward to it being built up. I cant thank Ali Macleod enough for all his hard work so far to create what I feel will be a stunning example of old ford capri.

Cheers
