you should be so so proud and you've given me info on how to try to achieve what you have achieved
Hi,
Thank you for your kind comments, they are much appreciated. I must admit you've just made me smile, thanks!

Yep, anyone can make their engine bay this clean. If they're as sad as me..... :D

All the best,
Andrew.

I've just checked and I don't have any recent photos of the engine. It's a work in progress at the moment with lots of cleaning, polishing and zinc plating going on!
The most recent photo I could find was taken by martinc92 at last year's Capri Club National meet.

Hi Andrew

One can only imagine the time, effort and patience required to achieve such a super result, I have to say that's spot on but no doubt you will continue and improve again... great job

Hi Des,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, I must confess to spending 1 or 2 hours here and there cleaning under the bonnet. :D

Thank you. Yes, it's clean, but I wouldn't say it's anywhere near Concours standard!

Hi Des,
I noticed they were looking grubby, and I thought "why not?" :D
While I was there it would have been criminal not to polish the earth lead in the centre of the bulkhead. Then there was the little earth lead on the headlight relay...........

Hi,
That's kind of you to say so, thank you. I hope you enjoyed reading the guides and maybe I've even inspired you to give it a try. A word of warning though, it's very addictive!

All the best,
Andrew.

These guides are so awesome Andrew, the parts come out great. This is just the kind of detail I would like to do on my car. How much would you charge to do some bits? This is more related to the zinc plating, but how long do the zinc plating finishes last?

Hi Jim,
Thank you very much for saying so. I admit the polished parts aren't to everybody's taste, but I like them in moderation. They're all original parts to the Capri, just a little bit shinier than usual.
Jim wrote: how long do the zinc plating finishes last?
The durability of the zinc plating depends on the thickness of the coating.
The yellow passivated parts will last for many years. The finish will degrade eventually as it is a sacrificial coating to protect the actual metal part. When it does degrade, say after 10 years or so depending on how exposed to the elements the part is, it can be cleaned and coated again.

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Andy,
I've been busy with bits and bobs around the house and haven't had much time for much polishing. Although I did manage to pick up some spare washers for the rocker covers.

Before. No, no, that won't do!
Image

After. Although they are much better than they look in the photo.
Image

Close up comparison between before and after.
Image

Another close up, this time with a screw to show the reflection in the washer. It doesn't quite reflect like a mirror, but the metal is very rough in texture to begin with, and that affects the finished result.
Image

I've also tried polishing the oil cooler. I'm not sure why...... :D

Before.
Image

After. Not a hugely impressive result, if I'm honest, but it will do.

Until next time,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,
Good work at plenty good enough IMO :D

On a slightly different note  When I was at Tredegar House a in 2014, a guy was chatting about Capris and spares etc,
and he told me there was a Car Breakers in New Quay South/West Wales?? IIRC. Do you know of it?
He told me they had 3 or 4 early 2.8i's there....... at that time anyway :o

Hi Andy,

I haven't heard of that, no. The biggest breakers in the area, Tanygroes car dismantlers, are near there, but I'm sure that they stock more recent stuff.
Thanks for the hot lead, perhaps it might be worth my while making a few phone calls to find out.

Andrew.
