Unfortunately it didn't make any significant differences to how the car drove
Hi Neil,
Thanks for that info, much appreciated. How much movement does your centre bearing sleeve have now? If I push up at the join, Mine moves, probably, 15-20mm within the rubber housing. Does that sound excessive? I've never changed either the bearing or the housing, and there isn't a receipt for anything in the history, so I have no idea when these parts were last changed.

Sorry for the hijack, Mart! :)

Andrew.
Virtually zero movement Andrew, just a bit of flex from the rubber mount, looks like you need a new rubber. For what it cost you'd just as well change the bearing at the same time.

Yes, my thinking exactly. While it's all apart, I'm going to treat the prop to a repaint as well.

Thanks for that, Neil. It looks an easy enough job judging by that guide. Let's hope it turns out that way!

Hi Andrew,

Sorry for not replying, as i haven't been online for a while as I've been doing quite a bit of work on the house so the Capri has taken a back seat, as it were, since the summer.

Concerning your question, i do now have a smoother ride on take up of power since changing the centre bearing, but i have also changed my centre CV joint whilst the prop was in half as this also had slight play in it. This was a bit of a pain to fit as this wasn't genuine as you can imagine.

i am due to fit new bilstein gas inserts shortly and refurb rubber top mounts, as my N/S insert is sticking with a slight bumping on the nearside as well which i hope is the top mount. As you know both sides will get done anyway.

I also hear belated birthday wishes are in order - happy birthday mate

Thanks Mart!
It's good to have you back on the forum, it's been too long.

I hope that the replacement of your inserts goes smoothly. I was reading a thread about Bilstein refurbishment on the turbosport forum, it might have some information of use to you.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the info and link. After looking at this it looks a pain, but i will still probably go for it and get the bits from Gartrac.

Hi Matt, just been looking back through your photos, stunning work. I notice that on your exhaust at the rear it is supported on left side by rubbers direct on the floor hangers yet the right hand side has the wrap round bracket around the silencer. Is this how it should be as I have got mine hanging direct on both sides but the right hand side is not sitting correct so maybe I need to fit one of the silencer wrap round type fixings, I did get a set of exhaust fixings off the internet which did include a silencer wrap round bracket but didnt use it as assumed it was for a different model.
