Hi,
Fantastic car you've got there. Is that Nimbus grey over Strato silver?
I can see that the 18 months hard labour have been well worth it.
Is that a Mirage stainless steel coil bracket and sleeve? I was toying with getting those myself, but I was worried that they might look a bit "Pimp my Ride". Having seen them on yours, I think that they look cool, not OTT at all.
Actually, your photos are giving me lot of inspiration for my 2.8!
Anyway, keep up the good work, and keep us up to date with more pictures as the build progresses.
All the best,
Andrew.

Andrew
yes you are correct with the colour, I spent quite a bit at mirage, tank straps etc.. Thanks for your comments, I've gone the whole deal and sent my seats off for re-upholstery in full grey original colour leather so looking forward to seeing how they look.
cheers Mart

Hi Mart,
I also agree with ghia15 that the silicone hoses look the biz to compliment the blue coloured block.
There are some really nice goodies on that car....
I can't wait to see the build progress.
All the best,
Andrew.
Yes, I can imagine! I've looked at their website and it's possible to spend a small fortune in the engine bay. As I said before, the coil, fuel filter and tank straps look fantastic.martinc92 wrote:I spent quite a bit at mirage, tank straps etc..

Hi Mart,
Just found your thread. I can see where you lost that 18 months! Looks like you've not left a stone unturned with this project. Your car looks about as good as it gets, great colour & interior retrim. Engine bay looks top notch too, you must get a lot of satisfaction driving this car around.
Enjoy your hard work.
All the best, Rob.

Re: 2.8i Restoration my project ongoing
Following completion of my restoration in May 14, unfortunately i did not swap my clutch when i removed the engine and gearbox, as i had a CCI receipt for it off the previous owner, along with all paperwork from new, so i estimated the mileage of the clutch to be around 4k miles.
I should have gone with my gut - we all live and learn eh?
So the inevitable - one of my winter jobs.i had to replace my clutch as it kept juddering whist reversing up the drive, and its biting point got worse, to just off the floor on full adjustment. This clutch has only done about 4000 miles but 8 years old?? Now installed a Borg & Beck kit, these were the bo****ks in the eighties, so i went for it.
Whilst on it, i thought i would remove/replace prop centre bearing etc. as UJ's were changed last year by prop recon company that said centre bearing was ok. As i have a very slight vibration at higher speeds, best to change it now!!
bearing now fitted.
CV joint cleaned out with new CV grease going in for good measure.
I should have it back together shortly, little winter jobs eh??

Re: 2.8i Restoration my project ongoing
Hi Mart,
I was just looking through the pictures again of your beautiful car. The attention to detail of the resto is just superb, and the proof of that is your well deserved CCI gold award (thought I'd mention it again!! ).
Just a quick question, did the replacement prop centre bearing and CV regrease make much/any difference to the vibration you were experiencing at high speed? My car is beginning to get a slight vibration myself and wondered if that may be the cause.
All the best,
Andrew.

Re: 2.8i Restoration my project ongoing
Hi Andrew, changed mine when I bought the car. The prop seemed to have a lot of side to side movement, thought it might smooth the ride out a bit. The bearing on mine was ok, but I changed it anyway. The problem was the rubber sleeve around the bearing which was worn where it contacts with the bearing. Unfortunately it didn't make any significant differences to how the car drove which I later found was old flat spotted tyres.Andrew 2.8i wrote:

Thanks for that info, much appreciated. How much movement does your centre bearing sleeve have now? If I push up at the join, Mine moves, probably, 15-20mm within the rubber housing. Does that sound excessive? I've never changed either the bearing or the housing, and there isn't a receipt for anything in the history, so I have no idea when these parts were last changed.
Sorry for the hijack, Mart!
Andrew.
