Re: LOTUS MK1 CORTINA RESTORATION
Going to be another Cracker.
I do love the MK1 Lotus and was lucky enough to strip and rebuild a racer.
It was great but yours will be in a league of it's own.
Look forward to the next update

Easiest way is a hot air gun and a scraper, cheersJayman wrote:Brilliant stuff, what's your technique for removing underseal?

Cracking progress Paul, I was wondering if you'd found a car. Look forward to seeing more.

I tried everything but a hot air gun and scraper was best.Jayman wrote:Cheers I'll give that a go soon, cant use a wire brush on a grinder since other peoples cars will be in the workspace ill be in. Re: LOTUS MK1 CORTINA RESTORATION
Done abit more on Saturday.Started on the n/s rear quarter and in the boot area.
Been collecting some nice parts over the past few months.
Brand new old stock genuine front grille.
A pair of perfect door handles.
Perfect seat belts.
Genuine perfect condition lotus steering wheel and gear knob.
Twin 40 dcoe 18s bought and refurbed.
Also bought a set of 15" minilites.I have the lotus steels aswell but these look the nuts on a lotus mk1.
Heres a few pics of a lotus mk1 with these wheels on.
Have to shorten the rear axle by 20mm for these to fit.

Re: LOTUS MK1 CORTINA RESTORATION
Those 'Minilite' style alloys on the car look like Compomotive ML's - a very different animal to the ones you have? Does that matter? Not a jot if its just 'The look' you are after?
Can't wait to see this keep progressing!

Re: LOTUS MK1 CORTINA RESTORATION
This is quite simply fantastic work! My Dad has a Mk2 Lotus Cortina in restoration at the moment, its still in the welding stage but he has just retired to I am expecting progress and a lot of late nights in the garage to come. It's black which we understand from the Lotus register to be rare, the paint code is SPL (Special?) whether it makes it worth any more I have my doubts.
I have emailed him a link to this thread as I feel he needs some motivation!! haha!
Outstanding work!! Following this one!
Cheers,
Stuart

The wheels your talking about are the wheels I bought as I bought them off the owner of the car in the pic, cheers PaulSmokeEm wrote:Those 'Minilite' style alloys on the car look like Compomotive ML's - a very different animal to the ones you have?
