Thanks Paul.

So, lots of fiddly stuff with not that much to show, but all the locks are now back in and working along with door light switches and door speaker wires. All back lights in place:

ImageDSCF4366_zpsc7108438 by Peter Smith, on Flickr

Headlining had a small split which I was going to try and repair but ended up with a replacement instead. Old one out

ImageDSC_0228_zps3cfed7c3 by Peter Smith, on Flickr

Replacement in

ImageDSC_0229_zps7c15222d by Peter Smith, on Flickr

New bonnet strip fixings

ImageDSC_0230_zps65e3c004 by Peter Smith, on Flickr

Another of the fiddly bits. The dash insert was butchered but I chanced acreoss a pretty good one last year which only had some of the inner edge removed

ImageDSC_0231_zps5c4334ff by Peter Smith, on Flickr

But to help the radio facsia sit properly I cut the strip off a scrapper and glued it in

ImageDSC_0232_zpsa680738f by Peter Smith, on Flickr

I also succumbed to an original uncracked dash courtesy of Tickford Man which is now all fitted along with the insert and replacement ignition barrel.

OK, you know the routine - slow progress!

No carpets in the car when I bought it but I had a couple of spare sets so sorted out the best. Passenger side a bit grubby

ImageDSCF4369_zps9be284bf by Peter Smith, on Flickr

Gave it a good scrub but couldn't leave it in the conservatory so its back in the car.

Offside trim and mirror refitted

Headlights washed and drying

I have to confess to a couple of flattering photos but cheers Paul. A long way off a certain orange 3.0s though!

So dragged the clutch and flywheel out of hibernation.

Probably the last work on the project until February :(

Had a rubber gearstick gaitor from a Sierra which I thought might serve as insulation

ImageDSC_0260_zps33b0665e by Peter Smith, on Flickr

But it was a tad big so cut the bottom off

ImageDSC_0261_zps1c67a530 by Peter Smith, on Flickr

and fitted in place

ImageDSC_0262_zps2498dc65 by Peter Smith, on Flickr

The original gaitor etc then fits nicely over the top

New reversing light switch

ImageDSC_0263_zps666225d9 by Peter Smith, on Flickr

Starter motor fitted

ImageDSC_0265_zpse332322b by Peter Smith, on Flickr

Plus alternator

ImageDSC_0264_zps0c28272d by Peter Smith, on Flickr

and fan

ImageDSC_0266_zps3a6eaeab by Peter Smith, on Flickr

And finally the radiator and shroud

A long haul to the finish line but I'm anticipating your eventual satisfaction will be immense. There's another black car somewhere needing this treatment.....

Great work there. You clearly have a lot of knowledge.
I am doing something similar - rebuilding a black 2,8.

Could I ask what the knack is for fitting the metal trim strips on top of the doors? Really struggling to get mine on.

cheers

Indeed Nige. Often seems to be the simplest tasks that take the longest and not helped by the fact that I wasn't the one who took it all apart in the first place. Getting there slowly though.

Thanks Mark. Some knowledge and some learning as I go - first 2.8.

The metal strips are a bit of a pain. I suspect it may be easier without the door frame although I've not tried. Best to protect the door top wth some masking tape to avoid scratches and after that hook the outside edge unde the clips and push inwards and down. Can take a bit of perseverance and its a bit easier if you open the window. Good luck.

Hi

I thought about removing the door frame but haven't so far - just got to keep trying i guess.
Have got 4 of the 5 clips on at the moment but last one won't go so am going to remove and try again when time allows..................the things that appear simple always end up the hardest it seems................

When do you expect to have yours complete?

Not in any great rush with mine - its been a shell for a lot of years and this winter is the first time i have made the effort to start so anything i get done is a bonus and at end of March it will go away again till end of the show season i expect.

cheers

Yep, tonight I connected up the radio wiring incorrectly with a dead short to earth that melted a chunk of wiring. Schoolboy error that filled the car with smoke and now I have to re-do a section. Could have been worse but slows it all down

I had hoped to have it done for the Bomber run in April but its looking unlikely at the moment. More realistic is CRaP in July which means it will have taken almost three years. Good job I have the 2.0 to drive :)

Eventually made up a new loom for the speakers/radio wiring

ImageDSC_0277_zps0b9b0282 by Peter Smith, on Flickr
