Neils 1986 Ford Crappa Laser

Post by Preacher man »

over the next few weeks i shall post my weekend jobbies completed on the car. i bought it last august. it came with a full ticket and 6 tax. its a 1.6 laser , strato silver. the car now has a 2.0 l 205 engine albeit a little smokey on start up. jobs completed so far

fitted 2.8i alloys with RS centre caps
tickford type front grill
tickford type rear spoiler
front half bumpers
sorted out the big holes behind the lights
fitted KN filter - makes a big difference
fitted led horseshoe lights on th front , cost me a tenner and i love em

i will post some piccies tomorrow. hope to fit the rear x suspension link thingies, heard they make a difference.

Immediate problems
heaters, petrol and water gauges stopped working
bit of a steering wonder at high speeds - at the moment the tops out at about 110 but it is on 1.6 gearing.

i wish i could mig weld though

Cheers Neil

got rid of the knackered ford stereo , covered the hole with capri cluv alloy cover plate , it fits ok - but the holes are out of position by 2mm so a very tight fit.

sorted the short circuit problem - it was a fault fag lighter- bypased this and all ok

fitted these flexi LED lights, they cost a tenner on ebay.Wired them into the side light circuit. The LED are white , so should be ok at MOT time. They are quite brite so may have to fit a half watt resistor to limit the current and make them dimmer.

I glued and wired them on to the insie of the grille , i like em and makes the car look mean. the led strips can be found on ebay , mine are 24 cm with 24 led lights.

the car is SORN at the mo, cant afford to tax it though.

Just painted the wheels , fitted new tyres, painted the centre caps. looks better

Recently passed the MOT , pleased about this

I noted that two studs on the exhaust manifold have broken off , any one got any advice to get these out.

Plans include

Head off , skim , decoke and FR32 cam
4 branch
leccy ignition
x frame the back
stick the bumpers on

Will post a few piccies as i go along

I must get that fuel gauge working , ran out the other day right by a speed camera.
