1986 2.0 Paris Blue - First Capri Progress pics
Well I finally took the plunge and got the car I always promised myself. Although in sound structural condition, the car did need a bit of work - a daunting project considering I haven't worked on a car before. But there is no time like the present as they say and I guess that it is hard to come by an easier car to work on.
Decided to fix the bodged wiring by the previous owner so the stereo actually works.

Painted the door pillars yesterday as they had faded and had started to go all sorts of nasty colours.
Also spent about 4 hours with some t cut and gave her a good going over and finished with a wash and wax.

Well I'm back...
Got the car down to the tuners today - must recommend feels like a new car much more torque and generally smoother! Ended up going up 3 jet sizes on the main jet however the car is now making 90 at the wheels with a very flat torque curve.

beaut of a car, I want some compo cx for mine but finding 4 wide ones seems to be quite hard. How come your car was dynod in 3rd? I thought they always used 4th cause its 1:1
Since I got a capri I've said "over the moon" a lot more than ever before.

Unfortunately the dash was already cut out when I bought the car with the stereo sitting in the glovebox! I was unsure as to why the car was dyno'd in 3rd too but it definitely drives better when you boot it now! - The CX's are getting very hard to find - I'm constantly looking for one to go in the spare to replace the 4 spoke but no luck!
LATEST UPDATES:
Well the gearbox oil seal went on the top which resulted in excessive territory marking (oil spots). Turns out the bolts on the panel were finger tight which made undoing them much quicker! Also put a new clutch in while I was at it.
Then this happened:
Which was nice and loud, and then this happened....
Which resulted in the purchase of this:
Which was treated to a nice spray job:
Then some demons were uncovered, a snapped manifold stud which was there since I had the car, and finding out no exhaust gaskets were ever fitted
Which led to some shitting the pants drilling moment,
And here we are all fitted in:
And the car as she stands:

Had the same bother with 2 snapped studs on mine, I wasn't confident in my drilling ability so I fobbed it off for someone else to do haha. I was told old cars used to come with flush fit manifolds and you didnt need a gasket till you disturb the seal. Has your vht paint stood up well? Mine lasted about 15 mins and flaked off, I think sportex coat the systems in non high temp storage paint or something.

Paint burnt off underneath the silver VHT and made it crack. Should of properly stripped the manifold before applying fresh paint in hindsight, the smell was disgusting.
Getting the studs out wasn't too bad in the end - definitely worth a go yourself first, I used drill reams (a pointier than normal drill) to make sure the drill was cutting into where I wanted it to.

That's a seriously good looking car mate, love the S capris. You've done some good work there. Bodywork looks to be in good condition, a mate of mine had those alloys on a signal yellow 2.0s, they suit the capri shape well. Need to paint my manifolds too, it's a bummer after doing the work if it starts to peel. I'll have to see what paints about when time comes.
Cheers,
Rob

Thanks for all the kind words! Unfortunately Im now chasing down a bad water leak which is causing the quarter panels to fill up everytime it rains! She's still running like a champ though, good to know my workmanship hasn't failed me yet!
