Hi,
Very nice and original looking. It looks as though you've got yourself a corker there!

Re: My Roso Red 87 Laser 2.0
Thanks guys for the kind comments. The paintwork is mostly original. The only parts that have been professionally sprayed are the passenger front wing (twice due to parking knocks) and the passenger rear lower quarter due to slight corrosion.Jasonmarie wrote:Really nice out of interest how much did the insurance say the car was worth ?
I will tell you what value the insurers put on it (I was not happy with their figure), but first may I ask what would be your opinion of a fair figure to replace this car at a classic car dealer?

Re: My Roso Red 87 Laser 2.0
We have been taking about this last year I think now I have £7500 on mine and that’s what I put on the form but the prices seem to be going up & up so I was thinking I might have to up mine next year when I insure again that was with Admiral.
There is a green 2.0gl I think on eBay for £14950 so it does make you wonder .

I think I put £7000 or 7500 on my 1.6 as well just after I had new front wing/valence/bonnet/bumpers etc. just to cover myself in case of the worst!

Hi,
The Hagerty insurance valuation tool values a 2.0 Laser at £12,800 now.

Re: My Roso Red 87 Laser 2.0
I usually review my agreed value about every 2 years and 2 years ago I requested an increase from £4000 to £6000 which was accepted. This time I asked for £9000, based on examples that have been for sale recently. My car is 1 owner from new and has all original factory fitted panels. Once the broker had received my pictures, I was told that the maximum agreed value would be £7000. I was also told that the market value of a 1987 Laser 2.0 was £5000 but the insurer had agreed a figure of £7000 due to the condition and the car having 1 owner from new. Although I thought the insurer may not accept my figure of £9000 I was disappointed that they did not agree a figure of between £7500 & £8500. I have looked at the Haggerty valuation tool and think that my car should fall into the "good" category as she does have some issues that need sorting.

Hi,
Your insurers must need their heads read if they think that an excellent condition Laser can be bought for £5000. Judging by how you have described your car, I feel that it is definitely underinsured at £7k. To be honest, I doubt that any insurance company would insure a Laser on an agreed valuation for over £12,000, but your original estimate of £9000 is probably quite close to where it should be.
That's how much it would cost for you to buy a comparable condition replacement.
Andrew.

Re: My Roso Red 87 Laser 2.0
I read you say you have issues as I can not really think of any on my Capri accept two paint runs on the wing but that’s being really picky and a very small crack on the dash ( I think we all have that )
I will review mine in Feb and go for the 12k if they come back at 10k it’s better I do know I would never find a mercury grey Capri because I had been looking for years .

Re: My Roso Red 87 Laser 2.0
I think you would be lucky to find a Capri in any colour as good as yours appears to be at reasonable price now. I have always wanted a blue one and mine was ordered in Cristal Blue but the dealer was unable to find one. (not sure I like Cristal Blue as much now. Mineral Blue is better). I had the choice of metallic red, Mercury Grey or Rosso Red. Did not want grey at the time but would have it now.
May I ask what agreed value you have on yours at present?

Yes £7500 with Admiral classic car insurance I put on the sheet £6500 and they come back with £7500 I thought that’s good .
They are going up in price all the time just look at parts .

That's very interesting. My insurers have never put a higher value on than I suggested.
Did you go to Admiral direct or through a broker?
I wonder if anyone else has had similar problems to me. I may start a new thread on this subject and see what response I get.

Re: My Roso Red 87 Laser 2.0
I always use a compare then go direct to the place I had to send in 6 pictures also any awards the car had at the time none but I do have two this year . Also I sent a letter from fords at Brentwood as it’s got a strange lastend vin plate as the Ford Capri Laser as it was made in October 86 31st on a Friday morning before they started work on the last brook lands .
I would have thought a Friday car would have been a bad thing . Also it had DINITROL from new that I have a certificate with funny bun holes everywhere see picture .

Re: My Roso Red 87 Laser 2.0
Thanks for that Jason. I will definitely have to look at switching next renewal.
I think you did really well to find your current Laser, especially as it was rustproofed from new. I am quite envious, as I think Mercury Grey looks quite classy. I had my Cabaret 11 Ziebarted, didn't bother with my Laser. Big mistake!
I checked the details from my VIN plate many years ago and if I remember correctly she was built in November 1986.

Sorry Sam, I should have replied ages ago. Not been near my Capri for a while. Battery gone flat. Sorted now I think, managed to jump start it from the wife's Mondeo. Battery seems to be ok but not sure if I trust it now.
I checked the mileage and it's just over 75,500.
