The Ford Capri Laser Page

so i've been and got myself another Capri after the last one seemed to be held together with glue. Some of you may have seen it on ebay. Think i got a good deal, body work is mint and the underside has never been welded and is still silver. Only a 1.6 though but at least its on the road! years MOT with no advisories, infact none of the mot's right back to 1987 have any advisories, all passed first time.

Would have preferred another red one but oh well! pretty chuffed! need to get to some shows now, any coming up around the Sheffield area?

Also ive never been too keen on the RS alloys so may be willing to swap if anyone fancies them?

Yep as Peter has said very nice indeed mate. Lovely colour and that interior looks pretty special too. Bodywork looks immaculate !! Nice one

Cheers mate, Body work is brilliant, obviously been garaged all its life, interior is immaculate no tears or wear on the seats!, the rear cards have warped tho i think or have been fitted badly. u can see down the back of them through the rear windows so i need to sort that. but all in all a good car

Yes thats gorgeous, love the wheels and how it looks like a 2.8i. Often wonder if i should paint the grille and headlight bezels on mine to help modernise it a little bit.
Nothing wrong with it "only" being a 1.6 either, better fuel economy so less expensive to run as a daily! Better gear and diff ratios too i hear.

Thanks! yeh the last owner must have put the stripes on does looks nice but dont see point faking it lol.. Im actually going to paint the grill and headlight bezels black as i prefer the old skool angry front end look.
ah yeah good point! tbh it feels quicker than my 2.0 so im happy with it, ive always been more bothered about the look of the capri than the power so its enough for me!

The wheels and interior dont look bad on it but if you did want to change back you'd probably be able to do a straight swap with someone on them.

I'l probably get shot for saying it but I could never understand why they didnt carry over the S or the LS interior to the Laser.

Are you sure it is still a 1.6 or has someone dropped in a 2.0 litre block at some stage and just not changed it on the V5 ? If it is a 1.6 it would be easy to get it up to the old 1.6 S spec of 91 bhp with a 32/36 in place of 72 bhp with the Motorcraft carb.

Yeah the interior is in really good condition cracked dash as usual tho, but original radio, sunroof works and heater works lol wheels and new tires are tidy , deffo wanna change them back tho or to some slotmags or similar. Paid just under 6 for it , think it was a fair price or I'm happy with it at least.

It's deffo still a 1.6. Apart from the wheels and interior everything is original. Also got all mots right back to 87 with no advisories on any.
It's actually got a Webber carb on it but not sure which , would it say somewhere on it? Had a look round that area today didn't notice any writing apart from Webber.

Cortina/Capri/Granada without viscous fan - 99bhp, later ones with viscous fan(79 onwards approx) 101BHP, all with 32/36 DGAV.

Transit - 76BHP (but more torque)Economy 1V or VV carb.

Escort MK2 RS 2000 - 109BHP - DGAV.

1.6 standard with shite carb - 72/73 BHP

1.6 with 2.0 camshaft, Re - jetted DGAV and decent exhaust manifold - about 90 - 92 BHP. (not far behind 2.0!)

I drove a 1.6 many moons ago and I don't think there much in it . The only thing back in the day was the insurance .

Ah cool. So i must have the 101HP one then. Sweet!

Your carb should have some markings on it telling you what it is on the bit near where it joins onto the inlet manifold on the right of it (if you are looking at the engine from the front) Might be covered in dirt though like mine was, but it should say something like "dgv 32/34" or something like that and have a Weber logo.

If you are very lucky someone may have changed the carb and inlet manifold for a 32/36 DGAV already. It was a quick and easy performance uplift for the standard 1.6 back in the day that made quite a difference just on its own. Even better of course if it had a 2.0 camshaft added and has to be said that a fast road cam would take it up to the power of a standard 2.0.
