Managed to get out in the sun on Saturday on the 3litre, got the fan off the front (cleverly held in place by cutting holes into the radiator core and cable tying it on  ) and sort out the horn wiring so I'm almost free of the wiring shit!

Cut off the passenger wing as it was bent and I couldn't open the door and was pleasantly surprised to see that the inner wing is clear and covered in underseal!

Shame the driver's side is a complete disaster....

Is getting to the point that more or less everything in front of the windscreen will need to be cut off and replaced with panels from expressed steel by the looks of it - not sure if that sort of level of welding is sensible to try and take on myself though...

Onwards and upwards!

That's definitely a project! I'm getting worried about digging too deep on mine at the moment in case I find stuff like that!
Welding, well one step at a time. 20 years ago I was a reasonable MIG welder, I plan on a fair bit of scrap practice before I let myself loose on the car

Probably best to get a complete A-pillar repair from Express panels for that Danny. I think they're on offer at the minute.

https://www.steelpanels.co.uk/products/ ... pair-m1s3/

Meant to ask but have you got the gear linkage sorted on the GL now and how is the rebuilt engine doing?

Cheers Paul, I think they'll be getting a lot off me soon!!

And don't ask!! Started to drive to Reading yesterday and got onto the A404 at Handy Cross, barely got to Marlow and it started making an awful noise - pulled over and I couldn't see what it was but still sounded awful so took it back to the garage that did the work, the camshaft pulley bolt had worked loose and the pulley had started coming off, and now it also sounds the bell housing has come loose! :banghead: :swear:

Also the gear linkage they managed to adjust before but the grommet/bush that holds the link in place apparently broke when they were putting it back together so need to find a replacement - works better than it did but is just little loose still

What a ball ache!!

So the MOT is due soon (booked for Tuesday) and I knew that the handbrake was a bit off and needed to be adjusted like the GL did a little while back… Bank holiday, in the sun, why not??

Stripped back the drivers side, all working inside the drum, great.
Stripped off the passenger side and the adjuster arm isn't moving - freed it off and got it to start adjusting properly and was chuffed. However in true 'Danny style' I fucked it putting it back together - managed to knock the shoe pad off the metal itself :banghead:

What a pain in the balls.

Anyway here are some pictures of it jacked up, and I undersealed as much as I could while it was up, will have to jack the front up to finish the rest, also smothered the petrol tank in a few coats of Hammerite black paint as the old stuff was flaking off

More playing in the sun yesterday! Managed to get both front legs off the car and the front anti-roll bar which I also sprayed up.

Also had a play with my shiny new welder, didn't want to risk ruining my own car mind so had a whack on my dad's exhaust instead

Safe to say I did a pretty ugly job of it and I'll need a but more practice but I'm also blaming the awkward position being stuck under his car....

Just because Jason mentioned it at the Ace - this is how wonky the front is! (the bonnet is straight)

Managed to get the steering rack off as well after a fight with it, time to strip that back and clean and tidy it up :)

If you're paying for it then yeah sure, 8th September!
Otherwise it'll be many more hours sanding everything back and spraying it all before even the components are ready to go back on - at least it keeps me out of trouble

So last night I was running back and forth to get a few bits out of the car and the exhaust looked a bit funny, had a look underneath and well....

That exhaust seems to missing the rear silencer... :)
Is your stainless system custom made, Danny? What silencers have you specified for that system? I'm guessing just the centre box - that should sound good on the Hindhead tunnel run that you've got planned! :D
