Don't think it's ever been off tbh mate - 129k miles ! Plenty of wd40 breaker bar and steadily back and forth but still snapped

That's the sort of thing that happens when I do anything

So I try not to 'tinker' unless absolutely necessary

That looks a really sound car, what a great start to Capri ownership, was awaiting some pictures as Des had said earlier & you didn't disappoint , it's a cracker. Keep us posted.

It isn't the stat housing I snapped the bolt head off its the housing that had the temp switch and thermo time switch in !

And I agree leave the grill and headlight surrounds, they look better not painted

Ordered the manifolds and possibly swapping the std system for a 2 inch sportex with someone

Stripped the bay back as far as I am now. All coolant pipes off so I can clean them inside and out to clear out any gunge etc seeing as these have cooling issues I've read. Fitted a new stat, not that there was an old one to remove

Will update with pics as I refit stuff. As said before, I'm not going for anything concours here. Been there and done it, and got sick of it with the Escorts I just want a presentable capri I can use.

My old exhaust had blown in virtually the same area, radiator had a lot of silt/crap in the bottom so worth flushing even so I think I'll need to do it again later. Your car looked great in the pics so sure it will look top notch anyway.

I was into the concours scene with previous cars but again like you bought my Capri to enjoy in a very different way... Trouble is I keep looking at the car thinking it could look really good so must stop listening to that devil on my shoulder...

Possibly too late now, but you need to buy a genuine Ford/Motorcraft thermostat which I believe are still available from Ford, although Tickover did have them http://www.tickover.co.uk/shop/contents/en-uk/p612.html but look like they're out of stock currently.
If the stat was missing you may have cooling issues, so as your doing flush everything through. The housing that has the auxiliary air valve on is very susceptible to getting blocked up with corrosion. Worth checking this is clear!

Yes I'm clearing every possible pipe and housing I can to make sure coolant flows well as I've read about the cooling issues these have . There has been a lot of crap come out of the pipes and housings so far and the inlets to the expansion tank are rusted almost solid ! It's the reason for the strip down . Once back together I'll flush it through before filling up with coolant

Didn't read about the stat anywhere and fitted a circoli 87 degree one ! Fingers crossed . It's had a new pump I just assumed they'd not refitted a stat when doing it .

Yeah we tend to prefer using the 82 degree stat on the 2.8. See how you get on, but if it runs hot I would suggest changing the stat to a proper Ford one.

Hi,
If you do decide to buy a genuine Ford thermostat, it helps if you know the FINIS number, which is 6106381 for the 82 degree thermostat. I did find out the price a few months ago, I think it was around £25.

hopefully it will be ok but if not I'll order one . ! I'll be running water wetter instead of normal coolant which should help too

I've always been a little sceptical about additives like this so I presume you've tried and tested with good results on other fords/cars. Just like a little feedback if poss...

Yes Des used it a fair bit. I can't actually say it's made the cars I've used it in run cooler as such as I have never tested it with a thermometer. However, I have never had a car over heat on me, only once when the fan switch wasn't working and the fan didn't kick in when stood! With the cooling issues the Capri has I just think it's worth sticking it in for the sake of 15 quid
