Hi Lee,
There are two white dots near the bottom of the gauge. If the needle sits between the dots when ticking over, it'll be fine.
Andrew.

It generally ticks over there Andrew but as I say after I'd driven it 8 miles it was hunting - dropping to almost cutting out, revving back up to about 1500 , dropping to cut out again , revving up again and so on till it settled at the dots !

I must say your 2.8i does look fantastic in that picture and looks like you got a really decent garage for it as well
All the best

Hi Lee,CapriLee wrote:Panic over then Andrew as that's about mine
What Made me ask was its started lovely since finishing it - starts and fast idles , slows down nice to tick over between the dots etc BUT that was until its first proper drive out to here - about 8 miles ( mot station was only quarter a mile ) and it's now hunting for a Tickover - drops to almost cut out and then revs up and takes a while to settle . Saw oil pressure was only a 1/4 and thought it could be low ! Obviously not
Check the air sensor plate is not set too low. It should be level with the start of the cone and central. My tickover is set at fractionally below 1000rpm, as I find it smoother like that.
All the best
Neil

Thanks Neil
I think it's a mixture issue I'm going to check it after a run out at the weekend . I set the plate etc when I rebuilt the metering unit before
Timing is set at 12 degrees is this what everyone is running ?

Think I put my foot in it there fella. Sorry Lee...but it still is (was) a lovely garage though
Lee moving house can be extremely stressful indeed so I hope everything goes okay fella. Its great you can store your 2.8i at your parents. That must be a big relief...bet you were getting more stressed about this than the move itself...I know I would
All the best mate
Nick
PS Hope you don't mind me asking but has the new place got a garage as well for your Capri or will you have to make other arrangements for this...hope I aint put my foot in it again

New place does have a garage but I am knocking it down to build a bigger one and extend the house overall after we have moved in so I'll need somewhere for the Capri again when I start that!!!!

Same set up on mine. It seems to run perfectly on regular unleaded with additive.

Re: A new chapter. My first Capri. 2.8 Injection.
Spent a few hours on the old girl today.
Speedo cable was loose at back of clocks. Speedo now working.
Test drove the car and the steering is spot on now thanks to the adjustment of the rack
Running nice, ticking over nice after tweaking the mixture a little and slightly increasing the tickover via the throttle screw.
Just still got a slight wheel wobble at about 40mph. Bushes, rod ends etc all changed. New tyres, balanced. Strange. Might have the wheels re checked for balance. If not Ill try some new bearings in the hubs, but there's no play in them!
They keep ya busy I guess!

Mines got a standard set up, apart from Spax adjustable rear shocks, and it's polybushed all round.

As you've probably noticed, options are limited when it comes to finding replacements. The only reason I've got adjustable shocks on the back is because they are gas filled, as are the originals. As for the fronts, Bilstein sell replacements for an Escort, however, the Capri legs need a small modification to allow them to fit.
I believe those replacements are as close as you'll get to original spec.

Re: A new chapter. My first Capri. 2.8 Injection.
Yes I'm increasingly noticing the lack of available parts for the Capri ! I never realised before owning one ! I thought like most panels would be available like they are for the escorts but how wrong I was lol !
Re: A new chapter. My first Capri. 2.8 Injection.
Sadly alot of cars are the same, The Mk1 CRX parts are pretty pathetic even to the point of maybe I should store it away.....But I will take a chance as it was meant to be driven.....
