Re: 1984 2.8i special
So as I said previously what should have been a nice easy water pump change ended up with two of the m6 bolts snapping flat to the housing, the good news is that thankfully in the end I managed to dril and with an extractor they eventually came out.
The rear thermostat housing was in a very poor state so in the end I managed to get a replacement pump, front and rear housings etc from Martin, 82 degree thermostat from burtons and a full set of replacement bolts from tickover then fitted the lot this morning. I have a set of hoses and clips from CCI which I'll fit along with the radiator when I get a minute....
[/URL]
I also dropped the prop shaft off as the center bearing needs sorting and whilst in there noticed what looks like a slight leak from the axel flange oil seal I'll check the nut first but may leave the seal as a job for later as I've got tons to do..
A nice little find was o/s/r brake drum which as you know has four nice round holes to fit in place over the studs.....not mine two are oval and it slides all over the place... I can only think a wheel was loose for a long period of time at some point...
I keep telling myself Capri's like mine were really cheap to own until recently and subsequent repairs were (in my case) either left or cheap "it'll do" fixes.... Mines in bits but it makes me smile every time I open the garage door...

Des you do get to a point where you're just left with just little jobs. And then you are more confident with the car and you start to enjoy using itBertie wrote:

Certainly hope so but I've already decided to do much of the work myself which does mean the odd sizeable gap in work time available. Sadly it won't be at any events this year but next year I'll get to as many as I can...

Re: 1984 2.8i special
Not much of an update as mostly he's in bits in the garage but I've managed to get the prop off and centre bearing done, ready for refit Next week, I've got a day spare so hope to get the radiator, pipes, coolant done check the timing, tappets, roccker covers on and see what happens when I turn the ignition key...
Don't know why I didn't check it but when I went to fill the diff after fitting the cover I can't get anything to fit the plug...looks like fun ahead trying to get out of the case, I thought it was 11mm but it seems not.

I use a 3/8 ratchet to undo/tighten the diff cover plug. Works OK for me....
Andrew.

Re: 1984 2.8i special
No time to work on the Capri properly managed an hour on a wheel to see how it came up. Will have a total refurbishment next year along with new tyres but so far no real damage so they will do for now. John (Taff) told me they are ligit 15's so that's a bonus...anyone any ideas where I can get four rubber locking cap seals..?

I would run a bead of silicone around them and when dry refit the cap

£30.00 for 4 O rings
Des,
If you can work out what the diameter and thickness is, I'm sure I could find something that would fit.
Regards
Neil

That's what I use, GL4 75W90.. Some others use ATF fluid, although I'm not sure what the advantages/disadvantages are.
Andrew.

ATF is often used to help with gear changes when gearbox is cold

Re: 1984 2.8i special
Just in for on the garage, pinion nut tightened up, prop now repaired so refitted. Funnily enough I checked the g/box oil and it already has ATF oil plus I'm not experiencing any issues so I'll stick with it for now... Thanks for the feedback guys...

Re: 1984 2.8i special
Well finally got him all back together replaced the water pump, thermostat with the correct one this time and replaced both front and rear housings plus new bolts. New hoses from CCI most of which must be cut to fit, reset the tappets plus changed oil plus filter again.. Left running for an hour and didn't over heat so I would say a result although I'll change the coolant again shortly as its changing colour again but it has been stood for some years so I'm not surprised even though I flushed it out and had the radiator flushed and tested.
It's been a longer job due to snapping water pump bolts etc but hey ho at least he's running again. Right, on with the list of other jobs..
