Re: 1984 2.8i special
I used gasket sealer for the stat housing des . Always do tbh
Re: 1984 2.8i special
I use a smear of grease either side of the gasket, less messy, prevents corrosion and allows the gasket to be reused time and time again. Put loads of grease on the 3 bolts also, as they tend to corrode after time.
All the best

Thanks guys... Not used the grease technique before Niel so worth a try... It's back to rusty brown again and temp issues so obviously I wasn't clinical when flushing out last time so I'll start over when I get chance...

Re: 1984 2.8i special
Pulled the radiator out today and sent it for test and recore if required, I'll take the viscous fan off and fit a new water pump and thermostat. Drained as much crud as possible and I will renew the tired hoses etc, its entirety my own fault the brown sludge returned as I should have done it right first time round.. removed the degas tank which was desperate for a good sort out....loads of cleaning to do...
My rocker covers have seen better days they are distorted and don't sit correctly so got these back today, colour is not for everyone but I like it for the time being...

Re: 1984 2.8i special
Do we have a special section for irritating little previous owners bodge jobs....
Broken n/s engine manifold (stud tabs) bodged to make them look ok...
Snapped bolts in the water pump...blathered in crap inside and out in the hope it won't leak...
Water pump flange to pulley cast broken in two places...
Rear themostate flange lugs broken..
Pump Bolts are snapped flat in the timing cover so I'll drill and extract if I'm lucky, replace the manifold etc...
On the bright side It only small irritating stuff ...

Hi Des,
Sorry to hear of all the irritating little problems you are experiencing. Consider them character building!
Andrew.

My Brother did that once. He glued the snapped head back into position on the manifold! Some people...Bertie wrote:Broken n/s engine manifold (stud tabs) bodged to make them look ok...

Re: 1984 2.8i special
So this afternoon I did complete a compression check, flat cold and dry the readings were constant across 5 cylinders at 130psi and the other was 140 so I'm personally ok with that result and will carry on with the list of other works... Feel free to tell me otherwise...
Prop shaft center is goosed not over noisy but it's more like play doh so will attend to that. Pulled the cover off the diff which obviously stank and it's ready for a good clear out.... what replacement oil are you using guys..

Hi Des,Bertie wrote:.any offers re the best replacement oil welcome guys..
I used Miller's classic differential oil in mine. Whatever brand of oil you use, be aware that API GL5 is specified for that application.

Re: 1984 2.8i special
whilst awaiting parts the gunk was finally cleared from the radiator and the flow is now spot on so no need for a recore which is a nice bonus. Quick paint and ready to go..

Neil is quite right, I overlooked the fact that Des has a Special.
I think the CCI LSD oil is Castrol B373 SAE 90 Racing oil.
