Hi Andrew,

It hurt my ego as much as my finger. :crying: Should be healed in a few weeks.

It is Cardinal red, yes. Although some paint shop versions appear to be slightly different, so I went with the best match I could get.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing it complete now, albeit slightly more standard than my original vision.
Very nervous about my looming deadline.

Finished off the axle, struts and brakes this week.

Few images:

Loads of shiny new bolts
Image

Had a quick look at this box of shiny too
Image

Going to get these shotblasted so I can paint them in high temp Por15 aluminium. Mainly to protect them as they're not stainless like the rest of the system for some odd reason only Janspeed know.
Image

Can't get to the engine until Monday now, but that's next on the list.
Car comes back from paint on Wednesday.

Hoping 2-3 weeks after that I'll have it home.

Cracking work Mat and the addition of the Janspeed tops it off. Post some pics when you get the suspension rebuild under
way :)

Thanks :)

I've got 3 weeks (well, 3 weekends and a couple days) to get the engine done and put the whole thing back together...
Nothing like a deadline to work to!

It is happening...

Last minute tweaks to paint being carried out. Noticed a few areas that weren't as perfect as I'd wanted, but have been rectified very quickly:

Originally I wasn't going to paint the engine, but now I've very glad I did :)
Fitted new crank seals front & back, new water pump, thermostat & housing, sump shot blasted and painted with Por15, new gaskets, new oil filter hanger & coolers seals, new belts etc:

Flywheel resurfaced ready for the new clutch kit:

Looks like a car!

Going this Saturday to fit the Janspeed system, dash, wiring, heater etc and hopefully get it up and running. Headlining and screens fitted next week, couple days to run around in it then off to Le Mans the following week... No worries.

Hi Matt,
Looking really great!
It's a brave decision taking the car to Le Mans. Although it's not that far, you haven't allowed much road testing time for problems to come to light.
Have a great trip, I'm sure you'll have a smile on your face every single minute! :D

I think the routes will be over 600 miles each way, plus the travel e do whilst we're there. I'm expecting 1,300 - 1,500 miles. Not many miles in the grand scheme, but as you rightly pointed out I'll be doing so completely blind in terms of potential issues. Ideally I'd have liked to have had 500 miles or more under the belt before setting off on such an adventure. I put European breakdown cover on my insurance policy today...

Hi Matt,
Sorry if I've missed this, and the thread is too long to go back to check, but are you going on your road trip in convoy with friends in their classic cars?
That sounds awesome, particularly as the French may not be as familiar with the Capri as we are in this country. I think you'll be attracting a lot of attention. You'd better brush up on your French for "No, it's not a 3 litre laser brooklands!" :D

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Matt,
Glad you are getting it 100%, as you shouldn't have any part of the car you aren't happy with :)

And have a great trip :goodluck:

And I'd better apply for visa after this morning referendum results!

I'm supposed to be going with 2 other classics, both '67 Mustangs. One belongs to my mum's partner, the other his friend. However both were being restored during the same period as mine and there have been 'complications'. One fell of the axle stands last week, punctured the tank; the other still needs work on the engine apparently. So at this rate it may just be me...

I'm sure if they make it the Mustangs will draw more attention than the Capri, theirs are looking to be particularly nice examples.

Just can't wait to get in it now. I've owned it a year come August and other than driving it back home I've probably done 2 miles in it.

Totally agree - no point going through all this and having bits that are going to bug me still. I'll get everything right.
There are some bits I've had to leave until I get back now, but they're mainly just cleaning or making shiny under the bonnet, like the latches and prop for example. And a few bits of interior I'll smarten up. Easily sorted after that car's together though.

That's a large bucket and the oil is all over the floor......how much oil was in that gearbox?

Brilliant work by all concerned, the underside looks as stunning as the, er, overside!
It's a car to be proud of. :D

Quite the opposite, I would have thought.

I think the bucket must have just been put there to cover up the spill, because not a lot went in it.

Can't wait to have to keep on top of the paint work underneath as well as on top...
