Hello from a new owner - '84 2.0 laser

Post by pauladiver »

Hi all,

Just thought I'd introduce myself.....

Here's Capri - just bought, I'm loving it! A few minor things to fix, but overall pretty solid.

Thanks guys. Yes, I love the colour too (my wife calls it brown!) and I'm very pleased with the alloys - from JBWs from Midland Wheels. They're 13 x 7s, wih 205 60 tyres.

Going to have a go at de-trimming and de-stickering it to give it a cleaner look.... :D

Or,I might leave the "Laser" rubber side trim on - can't make up my mind.

I'm missing one of short the rear rubber side sections if anyone has one going spare....

Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum. :welcome:

What a beauty of a lacquer red Laser you have, and those wheels set it off a treat. Being on an A plate that's one of the very first Lasers, as they were introduced in June '84. There's a piece of Capri trivia to amaze (or bore) your friends with!

All the best,
Andrew.

Cheers.

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the Laser Page Forum mate. Great to see another Laser on here and a beautiful one at that. What a lovely colour :applaud: ...but I would say this ;)

Nice one fella. Looking forward to seeing more pics of it as and when. Would love to see a pic of the Pinto lurking beneath :D

Regarding the trim/decals as already said I would leave those be mate. Its a Laser so it has Laser stripes...and what lovely stripes they are too ( :) ) and as already said it looks great just as it is, especially with those lovely wheels too. Really suits it. JBW do some fantastic alloys. I got my 4 spokes from him too for my Laser :D

By the way mate there are some extremely knowledgeable and friendly folk here mate who are always only too happy to offer superb advice so just ask away as and when you need...anything goes here...well almost anything.... :)

All the best Paul,

Nick

Paul, the paint code for Lacquer Red is L5. I bought some from this crowd recently to touch up the around my engine bay. They sell spray cans and normal tins too. Not cheap but colour match is pretty decent and paint quality is decent too.

Scroll down about halfway on the link below and you will see the Lacquer Red L5 usesd between '84-'86 on Fords, then you use the drop down menu on the right to choose if you want a spray can or tin and what quantity. Delivery was very quick from them as well. Hope this helps

Hi Paul,

Nice new steering wheel would go nicely in there ;)

The Capri world is a surprisingly small one sometimes! Welcome to the forum! Nice to see your car mate, love the wheels, and I'd echo what the others have said and keep those lovely original looks, although an interior can always be swapped back over so no worries there.

I also had 'fun' with the the back seats when refitting them, it's not all that bad if you take careful note of how they come apart.

One other thing to look out for (if you're really lucky) is the original build sheet from the factory as the car came down the line, which is sometimes tucked between the seat back and the foam cushion - a few of the guys on here have found theirs there, unfortunately mine was missing but it's well worth a check once the seat backs are out on the bench!

Please keep us posted, and if you haven't already gathered we like plenty of pics on here so feel free to share :D

Mike.

Hi Paul,
Have you decided on this yet? If it was me I'd leave it just the way it is, the Laser stripes contrast nicely with the paint.

All the best,
Andrew.
