What will my Capri do to this?

Post by Jack Walsh »

I've just bought this for my wife - as she has gamely put up with me for the past 10-years! I'm a bit worried what the offspring between this and my 2.8i will look like.

Oh uuurgh. It's a 1303!!!! It's not a proper beetle I'm afraid. They are even outcast at air cooled events. Nasty beetles. Did you get it cheap?

'You've got the wrong Beetle'. Really?
'Outcasts' at events - remind me not to get in to the VW scene then.

Nice looking car, hope you and the Mrs have some fun with it Jack.

It's unlike you to be so negative and bitter about how your life has turned out!

I was warned by the owner that there are a few people out there who don't much like the Super Beetle. Each to his own, of course; although, the owner did say that most of these people don't even own a Beetle and are parroting what they've heard others say.

Story checks out.

Luckily, to my wife it's just a Beetle - so no point in paying more than I had to.

Hang on a minute, do I have to take this abuse from someone who posts on a Capri forum but doesn't even own a Capri?

Thanks Peter. It's great fun, albeit a little agricultural!

The wife has always said that she wanted a Beetle - so she was made up when it turned up on the drive!

It's the least I could do; after all, who are we without the women we love?

Cheers.

So you hate your wife so much you bought her a Beetle?! You are a cruel cruel man!

And it's a 1303, just in case she was in any doubt!

I wasn't being insulting. I had a curve screen for a while and I didn't mind it. It was the reactions from other beetle owners that was the problem.

Yes it's got a plastic dash. Curved screen and McPherson struts up front. If it wasn't for new taxi laws requiring 4 doors they would still be making these.

True unfortunately Peter. It's a bit like turning up at crap... In a manta.
Which is a shame. The revised floor pan and body style just wasn't accepted on the scene.

No worries, then. It's just that it sounded a little insulting!

I expect you're right about the VW 'scene' having a few people like that; but my experience tells me that all scenes have at least one idiot.

The trick is not to take them too seriously.

Yes. There's always idiots sadly. This us why all car scenes are suffering. I wasn't insulting at all. It looks in good nick to be fair.

You can still buy kits to fit pinto engines into beetles. Then your 2.8i got no chance of catching it.

Hey Pete. You're into major restos aren't you. Fancy a third? You'll need plenty of steel and a good welder. ;)

She's back on the market.
