Found this on US ebay, with proper chrome bumpers it would be pretty damn cool.

I agree, those US bumpers don't do the Capri shape any favours. Other than that, it looks like a nice car. What's the power output of the US spec 2.0?
Andrew.

Re: USA MKI Capri.
The US spec 2.0 has a really low CR, so i wouldn't expect it to be very lively! I'm not really sure if its the same OHC as uk or a US lima version....
I'm more concerned with what the paint is covering up.
Hopefully the seller gets back with some reassuring information.

Hi,
Well, according to two reference books, post '71 US Capris use the Pinto rated at 100bhp.
Are those skid marks on the road in the first photo? It looks like it's been dragged out the garage backwards!
Andrew.

Re: USA MKI Capri.
ha, its probably just been washed 10 feet out of the picture.
so far the seller has been very positive about the car (as any seller would!)
Does look a very solid car and just waiting on some close up pics of the usual problem areas.

At that price you'll have to turn up in a striped jumper & mask to collect it
The are a couple of stateside members who'll know a bit about them U.S. spec models.

Re: USA MKI Capri.
Yeah its defo a good price. There's also a pair of doors a bonnet and boot lid and original seats.
Seller wants a few extra for them but I don't think they will fit in the car.
Looking forward to picking it up!

Re: USA MKI Capri.
Well it made it home! nerve wrecking 3000kms from Chicago to Edmonton, steering rack bushes completely gone, juddering clutch and the fear of catastrophic failure of engine, gearbox, electrics, running gear . . . etc!
Engine didnt use any oil and the coolant level barely dropped.
If I'd seen the car close up I may have passed on buying it TBH, a lot more rust underneath, holes in the floors and the sills are pure filler...
But anyway, I have a capri again! This ones gonna be a long term project.

Re: USA MKI Capri- road trip
That's a way to get to know a car, a 3000 mile drive home, hope it had aircon ! Good looking car though, some bodywork repair, euro bumpers & original seats & it will look stunning against the local traffic.
Then it's just the supercharger, bike carbs ...
Enjoy your new purchase (& your new home, been to Canada as a kid on holiday & loved it )
Cheers,
Rob

Re: USA MKI Capri- turbo lima
Managed to find a merkur xr4ti 2.3 turbo engine and t5 box from a mustang, took the drive shaft too and might go back for the rear 8.8 axle. Its too wide but could get it narrowed to fit the mk.
Looking forward to stripping it down and rebuilding it. Good scope for some serious power outta this lump.

Re: USA MKI Capri- restotime
Got the capri out of storage and into my garage.
Engine out and car stripped.
Few pics taken along the way.
F'ing car is pretty rotten but I shall persevere!
And the wiring loom is a bit more intricate with starter inhibitors, seat belt warning, starter button under the bonnet, neutral switch, key in ignition buzzer, side markers, and this thingy thats part of seat belt setup

Re: USA MKI Capri- restotime
Wow, you did say you had some holes in the floor, I thought it was only in UK we had that sort of issues. Even more impressed now with your long journey home!
Good luck with restoring/modifying.
