Hi Lee,
Welcome to the forum.
That's very kind of you to say so, thank you for your comment.
I've got lots of improvement/ refurbishment planned over the winter, so the car should hit the show season next year cleaner than ever!

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi All,
Some more refurbished parts to go on the car:
Powdercoated shackles with new poly bushes.

Zinc plated bits and bobs. I've also done the tank strap hook bolts (not shown) and they've come up like new, saving me £24 over the cost of buying replacements.

Hi,
Thank you for your kind comments, they are much appreciated.
In truth, it's not without it's faults, but then what Capri isn't?

You should post some more photos of your car, folks on here like to see the cars of other members.

All the best,
Andrew.

You're kidding right, don't think your car could ever be cleaner :D . Plan to take a leaf out of your book Andrew & just enjoy mine & improve it as it goes along. Looking forward to seeing it again in shows next year.

Hi Rob,
Wait and see! :D
I think gradual improvement and refurbishing as you go is the way forward. That way, you don't realise how much money has been spent!

I'm really looking forward to seeing your car again when it gets back on the road.

I agree gradual improvement is the way! You also get to enjoy every improvement individually meaning you get more :D for every £ spent. And its easier to hide the cost from her indoors ;)

Hi Neil,
As long as you keep the stack of receipts well hidden! :D

I don't mind forking out a little bit of money here and there on the car. I see it as a hobby, and hobbies generally involve some outlay.

Yeah I agree its a hobby! And although I never intend to sell it, I feel justified spending money when it's seemingly going up in value. If you added up the time I've spent working on it, then its probably not cost effective, but the pleasure I get back more than compensates :D

Hi Neil,
You're not wrong there. I certainly get pleasure from driving the car, but not only that, I enjoy tinkering with it and cleaning it at the weekends. I also enjoy showing the car at events, which is something I've never experienced before as this is my first classic. The car just keeps on giving! :D

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

Sorry if I missed t in the thread somewhere, but are you doing the zinc plating yourself?
If you've already done a thread on it, or posted info could you point me toward it so I could have a read?

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Matt,
No, you haven't missed it in the thread, as I'm not sure that I've mentioned it. Yes, I've set up my own science lab ( :) ) and I'm doing my own zinc plating and yellow passivating. It's really easy to do, but the chemicals used are hazardous, so it's not for everyone, although it's not really a problem with the correct PPE.
I haven't really thought about a writing a project thread, although I can do so if there's some interest.

So far I've completely stripped the whole rear end of the car and I've refurbished all the nuts and bolts etc. As I mentioned in the thread, there is a massive cost saving over buying new parts.

All the best,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew,

Although I'm unlikely to ever do it, I would certainly be interested in reading about the whole process in terms of cleaning up the aprts and plating them, and what's involved.
Also - you've stripped the whole rear end? Where's the pictures?
:D
