Thanks for the complimentary response.

My absolute pride and joy. I've owned others of varying engines and this is the one I have gotten the most attached to, probably because it was the first car I ever drove legally and what I have been driving ever since.

Hi,
Very tidy car, he's a credit to you. I do like the look of the E30 headlights, and more practical than the standard items too.
I am not surprised that you are attached to this car, I would have killed for a car like this when I was your age! :)
All the best,
Andrew.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the kind words again.

With regards to getting the car it was right place at the right time. Was bought unseen, I know it's a cardinal sin to do that, from ebay and went for my max price. Someone else also put in my max bid at the last minute so really was lucky to get it.

I fitted the E32 lights when I got a crack in one of my original lights and to be fair they make a good improvement to the night driving of the car and I like the look. Also have the HIDs fitted to the car and it is almost like daytime driving. No need for full beam as they make no difference.

Thanks Dan, I've had the turbo tail for about 5 -6 years and finally thought it was time to get it fitted. Still need to fettle the tailgate with the turbo tail fitted for it to fit perfectly but all in good time.

The colour is the graphite grey released for the 2.8i. Factory colour and have the build sheet and vin to prove it, really happy about that as it is a rare colour for a capri. Was advertised as black when I bought the car and was thankful for the error as I love the colour.

Still loads I want to do to the car, as you know they are never really finished but plenty of time in the future to get it done.

Looks superb, really good job you have done. Is that still the same white 3.0 you had when i last saw it down at Halfords?
Been a long time since i have seen your cars, i still remember the day your Mum kindly gave me a lift up to the MOT garage in your 2.0s :)
Nice job
Plans have changed to just make a good fun Track Car :)

This is a good car. Fucking confusing under the bonnet. But a good car.

X plate was on the cusp of the gearbox change. Did you get lucky and get a propper rocket box or did you get the nasty sidelink box?

Well, It is time to revive this beasty from his long sleep.

Can't believe the car has not been on the road in 2 years now. Where has the time gone.

Having been doing the strip on the mothers car, And as I now have a full time job, I thought the best thing to do was to get my capri back on the road for the next show season.

This started today by getting the gearbox out of the car and down to a company in Newbury to be rebuilt. Same company that did the Wheeler Dealers MK1 Fez box.

I took them two boxes to make a good one but they are going to give me a price tomorrow hopefully as I did ask for steel syncro's and HD bearings to cope with the up horse-powered engine up front.

To be fair the last two boxes I put in have both ended the same way, whining and crunching, but one was unknown when I bought it and the other had over 100k on the clock and had been run with no oil for an hour on the motorway when a garage didn't top it up like I asked them to do.

I also poked some nice big holes in the strut tops, they have needed doing since I bought the car so I can't really complain. Got a good welder near me who will do them in Jan but he is a bit on the pricey side. Seen his work though and it is top quality so there is that.

Getting both the repair panels and the V6 strength panels, Bit of extra strength won't hurt, from Martin at Caprigear so that will be good.

Also going to get the axle rebuilt by the same guy doing the welding as the diff bearings have gone south and it is grumbling like a bitch.

Then it will get a new landrover MC to go with the brakes and just general re-commisioning before going for the MOT in March hopefully.

Will see how far I get before I am broke and selling my kidney on ebay.

pics to follow.

Hi,
It sounds like you're going to be very busy over the winter months.
Your stunning car is definitely worth putting the effort in though.

All the best,
Andrew.

Thanks.

The body needs a little attention but should look pretty much the same and definitely worth it.

Going to be busy with them both but glad I only have to foot the bill for my 2.0. If it was for both then one would probably have been forsale.

will post pics up later and will keep the progress coming hopefully.

Apart from the wheels & rear spoiler it is exactly the same spec, colour & year as the 2.0S I used to run. Think those strobe recaro seats with the fishnet headrests were the best seats I had in any car. It's a great looker, glad your'e giving it some TLC. Enjoy.

Cheers.

I agree, the fishnets are the best. I find them more comfortable than the laser or the ghia seats.

He will be getting the TLC he deserves as and when time and funds allow. Always going to be a rolling resto atm.

I plan to do a full restoration on him in a few years time but for now just needs to be used and loved.

Hi all.

It's been two years on from the original post and the car is going from strength to strength.

I have had the rust repaired on the rear valance, both doors and the strut tops. I also got the strengthening plates put on as well.

I just put the newly painted boot trim panels in, refitted the rear door cards and fitted the better condition boot floor cover panel.

I replaced some of the poor fitting screws with original spec ones for the dash panels.

I also topped up the oil and did a few little odd jobs so I can use the car for a few days, use the fuel before he gets laid up for the winter.

During the winter I plan to really get him ready for the next show season. I plan to change all the interior to black, tidy up the engine bay a little, replace the inlet pipework.

If I can find a decent V6 mt75 gearbox then I might make use of my bob in the garage and run it on the Megasquirt.

Who knows, all I know for sure is there is plenty of life left in the old dog yet.

Re: 2.0's 2017 updated

Post by Ghia15 »

Hi all. Haven't updated this in a while as the car has been largely unused due to mechanical problems and travelling.

Well since then I have fitted a reconditioned type nine and had the rear axle rebuilt with all new bearings and a quaife atb.

I have now fitted rear discs to the new hubs and will be fitting Scorpio cosworth vented rear calipers.

On the front I have wildwood 4 pot midilight calipers on 260mm drilled and grooved vented discs.

Hopefully ready for classic ford but not much time to do things to him with work and going away.

Pics to follow.

Can't wait to see more pictures. God I wish I had a turbo tail. Love the wheels too, I'm having a ton of hassle with mine.
