1981 Ford Capri 1.6 'L'

I'll get some photos of the interior soon, not in bad condition with bits of minor rust, underneath is fairly solid, 2 previous owners last one from 84 onwards, 68k miles. I realise its not the most desirable model but love driving it.

A desirable Capri is one which isn`t rotten; yours looks very clean & tidy, and the fact it`s had same owner for 29 years can only be a good thing. Plus the standard Ls & GLs are very thin on the ground now so it`s of interest from that point. Enjoy!

hi and to the forum you will find everything capri here from advice to parts. thats a gorgeous 1.6 L i love its originality its even got the original steel wheels. if i had a 1.6 L i would keep it original because these base models will be worth a lot in years to come because there so rare and yours is so mint and in my favourite capri colour

It's also nice to see one that some prat didn't put a nasty glass sunroof in in the mid 80s. Mate fave model of Capri. Make great sleepers.

That's true.

Might be nice to see it wearing some well chosen wider wheels though (with the orignal steels safley stored away).

Glad to hear some decent comments on my Capri, good to hear being an 'L' model doesn't take too much away from it. Still trying to decide on what wheels to put on her at the moment. Also considering a turbo tail?

Can't decide if keeping it original and pickin up some new wheels would be all that's needed?

Enjoying using this as my daily driver for my 20mile trip to work, original radio works, even the clock still works! Only issue I have at the moment is tappets need adjusting and the exhaust is a bit smokey when I first start her up. Rust is very minimal Infact keep getting comments about the condition of the bodywork.

Issues of taste aside, it would be such a waste to drill into a 'nice unspoilered' tailgate.

Keep it simple - change the wheels and call it stunning.

Yeah I want a spoiler on my ls, but I'd buy a new boot if I did get one.

L model take too much away from it? You're looking at it from
The wrong angle. Embrace the clean unfussed lines of an L and spend your money on
The mechanicals of an L like I did. And NEVER drill that tailgate. Un drilled tailgates without wipers are rare as hens teeth.

I can't upload pics but maybe someone can show you to give you some inspiration. Mine had no stickers no spoilers and no bullshit!

I had the original L wheels widened by 2.5 inches then wrapped them with stretched 185 60s. Then I dropped the car 4 inches. Fitted an LSD. And a hot 2 litre. Miss that car bad.

More snaps of my 1.6L which I've now been using as a daily driver including 20mile drive to work and back 5 days a week. Also driven to Croyde in Devon and back to Southampton as well as Torquay in Devon and back in the 4 months or now owned her. Great reliability since I've owned her too not bad for 32 years old.

Also passed MOT on Monday (after fitting a new headlight) so she lives for another year.

Love your car mate. I have a gl and like you thought what should I do to it but just the fact its a base model in original condition i have decided to restore her as such. The only thing mine has is the 3inch exhaust because it was cheaper than a standard at the time. You can see it in the projects if you want. But I would love to see some shots of your interior though.
