How about a nice set of refurbished 'RS' four spoke alloys with 185/70 tyres as per the Laser ? I think they would enhance the appearance without being out of place.

Looks like i started somat. It doesn't get more sleeper than an L on banded steels. Brave width. My L had the original wheels banded to 7.5 and 185 60 rubber... Dropped it 4 inches. Who needs silly turbo tails and stick on shit.

Has this car still got its original low backs and 4 speed?

Hi Terra sorry for the late reply a friend of mine who lives locally made the banded steels.. He currently runs a mk1 escort Mexico replica, working on an mk1 rs2000 escort and a mk1 Capri project.. Does some quality work too!

Before anyone asks, I'm missing my corner bumper because I made the poor decision to use an automated car wash rather than do it by hand! Decided I'm switching to mk2 bumpers painted black.

Have had my Capri a year at the end of this month and loved every second of it been my daily driving since day one. Driven myself and my girlfriend to North and South Devon from Southampton twice over without any hitches apart from having to stop and cool the engine down due to overheating in traffic. Took my older brother to his wedding in it as well! Broken down a handful of times although after replacing everything in the engine bay turned out to be points and condenser so now switched to accuspark electronic ignition kit. Love everything about this car despite overheating in traffic or the fact my 1.6 pinto is worn and low on compression - constant thinking of bits to do and replace etc! I think that's part of the fun really.

Hopefully will have it running for years to come although will need to drop a 2ltr and 5spd box in at some point as the 1.6 I have in there is fairly worn!

Can't believe how tough this car looks just by changing to wider wheels, shows how great the capri shape naturally is. I've seen a blue GL model at a couple of shows that's totally standard & it's refreshing to see one like this. If you're going to modify I'd just stick to upgrading mechanicals & leave that stunning smooth body alone, but that's my opinion, it's your car enjoy it.

Cheers,
Rob.

i do really like this capri theres character to a basic L capri. and the L's are brilliant for slightly modifying as well. those banded steels look the business also the mk2 grill looks good as well. i think mk2 black bumpers will look good. does your girl friend like the capri as not many girls our ages like capris

Brief update on how I'm getting on with my Capri 16months later..

MK2 bumpers to go with the mk2 grill finally fitted, couldn't decide wether to go black or leave chrome but the chrome was too good to paint over. I'm now on the look for a good 2.0 Pinto as my 1.6 is extremely worn out sadly!

List of work done since I bought it July 2013:

HT Leads
Spark Plugs
Distributor Cap
K&N Air Filter
Rocker Gasket Cover
Tappets Adjusted
Banded Steels
MK2 Grill
Oil change
New Fuel filter
New Ignition Coil
Fuel pump
Leaf Springs
Electronic Ignition Kit
Track Control Arms
Flushed/Replaced Radiator Fluid
x2 Camac 205/60/13 Tyres
x2 Nankang 205/60/13
x2 front wheel bearings
x2 rear brake cylinders
New Battery
Timing adjusted

Got some more bits to do for MOT as well. Also plan to take the plastc side strips off but not sure what to do with the holes?

Dan - Girlfriend didn't like the Capri at first but the more we've done trips in it it's grown on her. Driven to Devon (Croyde and Torquay) from Southampton three or four times - Taken it to London, as well as Ford Fair at Silverstone and Classic Ford Show at Santa Pod.. and also use it as my daily driver since I bought it. I knew she'd come round to it, she's the one telling me to never get rid now!

Mk2 bumpers.

Well you've ruined that one haven't you.

1600L's are very rare. Rarer than a 280!

They may well be rare, but the less plastic sh*t the better.

You've left a bunch of holes on the wings though. The plastic hid them of course.

Easier to convert back to standard, should he choose.
