2.8 Special
Hi.
I've just taken the plunge and bought the car that I always promised myself!
I'm not sure if I've got the ken to add photos properly, but here goes...
Cheers.

Re: 2.8 Special
Thanks.
It was the only one I saw, which is probably a bit rash, but it was so lovely I couldn't return home wihout it.
My wife just sighed, then sort of grimaced, then finally smiled when she got back from work!
I think it's because, despite being nearly the same age as her, it's aged a little better.
She wasn't consoled by me saying her rear-end is nicer than the car's. I count myself lucky that she didn't say the front end was much longer that mine!

Re: 2.8 Special
I don't know if anyone is remotely interested, but I took some more pictures to allow the insrance company to give me an agreed value. I expect they will say it's worth about £1,500 - but hey ho!
Sorry if that was overkill and boring!

Re: 2.8 Special
That looks like a cracking motor.
When i took my insurance out they warned me that if they thought my car was worth more than what was stated then i might have to pay more.
enjoy it, maintain it well and it will be good.

Re: 2.8 Special
I've 'insured' it for £5k, so there's orobably no danger of that happening!
Any idea what a reasonable valuation might be? I bought it from a garage for £4k and change, which I recognise is probably over the odds - but my mechanic brother (should read maniac brother) seemed happy it was in very good condition.
I figured that the most important aspect was the bodywork, as the internal workings could all be replaced without too much bother. That said, the interior and the oily bits seem pretty decent, too.
Cheers.

...should read £4k and some change - i.e. I didn't get any change from £4k, quite the opposite.

Re: 2.8 Special
I don't think that you've paid over the odds for such a car, it's obviously been very well looked after. From other Capri prices that I've seen, especially those which don't need anything doing to them, it's a more than reasonable price that you got the car for I think. And it's also good that your agreed value is so high, as often your first year of agreed value will match the price that you paid for the car. Very nice, enjoy it!

Thanks.
It's going in to the shop next week to have several panels sprayed to get rid of a few annoying stone chips.
Curse my OCD!

Re: 2.8 Special
4K is definitely not OTT: it looks like it`s original paint? To be in that sort of condition it`s been absolutely cherished its whole life (OCD?) I would pay way more, i would view that as a 2-3 year old car. Well done !!!

Re: 2.8 Special
Cheers brother!
I'm not always so sure. The stereo seems a bit dodgy - the factory-fitted CD player is obviously non-standard (not wide enough and way too deep) - so I tried a mini-disc, which didn't fit either. It does hold an ipod end-on; although, it falls out every time I drive over a bump.
Joking aside, I'll be one of those annoying types that only drives it in the dry and keeps it garaged, but I hope it'll still be looking good in 20-years' time.
Funny the lengths we go to in order to preserve something worth less than our neighbour's five-year old Astra!

Re: 2.8 Special
Worth less in money, yes - but its value is another matter. Given reasonable care there`s no reason why that car cannot be just as beautiful in 20 years time, whereas the Astra will have been reborn as a fridge.

Ooh EBC.... like it. Made a collosal difference to mine I have to admit, although you need to get them heated up a bit before they are at their best. Good choice of the green stuf pads over red though, the red's are too hard for road use I reckon.... NO BRAKES WHEN COLD!!!

Back from the bodyshop after having bonnet painted to remove stone chips.
I think they've done a good job with colour matching.
Janspeed exhaust next, I think.
