280 Shell for sale: NO LONGER FOR SALE

Post by RadioInMyCapri »

D reg 280 Shell
Build Number 703

The Odometer is currently showing 26678 but there isn't enough paperwork to guarantee this..
The Paperwork includes the following MOT Certificates:

Date Mileage
14-2-04 26289
12-2-03 24142
22-6-01 23706
10-6-00 22360
10-6-99 21787
9-11-97 19392
20-11-96 12835

No earlier MOTs unfortunately.
There is the odd bill going back to 91 but nothing with a mileage on.
The CCI valuation certificate dated 10-1-97 puts the value at £5,500. I've emailed CCI who have confirmed the valuation, and also that in 1997 a 280 with 122K miles would have been worth a lot less than £5,500. Due to the time that has elapsed, they don't have any records that would definitively confirm 22K miles rather than 122K. They have said this:

"From: Capri Website <[email protected]>
Date: 8 February 2017 12:34:38 GMT
To: Anupam
Subject: Re: Valuation & Vehicle History

Hi

The valuation would have been accurate at the time

I have just looked at 'sale' prices we have on file for June 1997 and found 4 280's, prices as follows:

Unknown Mileage Immaculate £6,000
45,000 miles, In need of tidying £4,000
52,000 miles, VGC £5,250
18,000 miles, Immaculate £6,250

Hope this helps

Regards
Sally
Capri Club"

Despite the CCI valuation, personally I think the car has been round the clock, and 122K miles is more likely. I've also spoken to HPi, and sent them the MOT certificates. The issuing test stations are now closed down, so they haven't been able to contact them, so aren't able to be sure. Some of you more in the know than me may be able to prove which of the 2 mileage figures is the more likely.

The reason I'm selling her -
Soda blasted earlier this month and, regrettably, she needs a lot lot more work than I can afford right now. I'm no mechanic, so it's not something I can do myself. The best way I would describe it is as a full body restoration project-she's not in good shape. Might be ideal for somebody skilled, who also has the parts to carry out the repair work, or simply someone who has the space to put her to one side - If I had the space, I'd be keeping her for several years as even in this condition she'd no doubt go up in value, given how prices keep going.

I'm looking for somewhere to store. Small chance I can put her in a garage. I won't be putting her on EbAY as i wouldn't want some one to buy her for the tags/logbook and then use them to steal somebody's pride and joy.

I'd like £3-4K for her.

As mentioned, I'm no mechanic, just somebody who loves Capri's. If able to, I'm happy to answer any questions. Please feel free to PM me.

Thanks

I've been able to find somewhere dry to store the car, so emergency over, and I'll be keeping hold of her

Good result. Just make sure it is well protected and kept dry if the body has been soda blasted. You don't want the rot getting worse!
