A well researched article....I wasn't aware that the 280 was fitted with a 2.6 litre V6!

I still think for the money you can’t beat a good laser , i guess the 280 are finding there mark now . But if I had the cash and the room I would add a 280 to my man cave toys .

It seems the larger engine Capri's has found their limit lately.
Many have been around too long, so maybe not the bargains sellers thought they were.....

It's interesting that the auctioneer from H&H observed about the 280 that "several people bought them to just sit on them as an investment".
The auction estimate places it at the very top end of the market, but can the prices really rise much further than that? With that in mind, it wouldn't appeal to anybody intending to buy it as an investment. Perhaps the classic car market in general is in decline, as I notice in the auction results that a lot of the cars didn't reach their estimate.

Having been part of a private collection, this 280 has extremely low mileage and has only covered 300 miles in the last 14 years and hasn't even been taxed since 1997. This must be one of the very best 280s out there.

I would prefer a car with more miles on the clock (over 50k say) that I can use, rather than keeping it locked away incase one mile affects your investment.....The 280 mentioned hasn't brought the big pay day expected on this occasion, and may well never reach it :?

:agree:
It's marvellous that there are low-mileage cars like this around, however, I believe that half the enjoyment in having a classic is in simply owning it, and the other half of the enjoyment comes from driving it.
I would definitely be too worried to actually use this 280.

Everytime anyone sees my 1.6 the first thing they come up and say after going 'wow I used to have one of these' is always "is it a 2.8?" because people only ever seem to remember there ever being 2.8's or 3.0's. The laser here is a lovely car but for the same money you can get a 2.8 in the same condition and I know which I'd rather have...
I completely relate to this..... whenever I chat to someone about my project, the first thing they say is "Is it a 2.8?"
Then they trot out the usual garb about them knowing a mate of a mate who had one back in the day and had to carry paving slabs/bag of cement/spare wheel well of concrete.........yawwwwn :sleepy: by then I've glazed over and narcolepsy kicks in...
They seem disappointed when I finally get a word in about it being a 2 ltr......

All we hear on the XROC stand "Is it a Cosworth"? :banghead:

No the XR4i and 4x4 are rarer, and the 4i precedes the Cossie :D

Haha at least we all get the same treatment then! Having to listen to the stories of people who "honestly" "definitely" had a Capri with a cosworth engine straight out of the factory and that's how it came, or the never ending stories of stupid things people did "back in the day" with them and how they could wheelspin the car in third gear it was so quick

I have the same thing with my GL, everyone asks if it's a 2.8, I say no its a rare 2.0l Auto, and there seem to be only a few left in the UK according to the internet, but then their eyes glaze over and stop caring now their 2.8 references mean nothing
