Definitely. Well spotted!Sploge wrote:Is it just me or are the rear bumper overiders in the wrong place?
A well researched article....I wasn't aware that the 280 was fitted with a 2.6 litre V6!Jasonmarie wrote:Spotted this in the news today

That 280 was auctioned today, but price N/A as are many other lots....Andrew 2.8i wrote:A well researched article....I wasn't aware that the 280 was fitted with a 2.6 litre V6!Jasonmarie wrote:Spotted this in the news today

No it didn't sell!Jasonmarie wrote: so it sounds like it did not sell .
It seems the larger engine Capri's has found their limit lately.Jasonmarie wrote:I still think for the money you can’t beat a good laser , i guess the 280 are finding there mark now . But if I had the cash and the room I would add a 280 to my man cave toys .
I would prefer a car with more miles on the clock (over 50k say) that I can use, rather than keeping it locked away incase one mile affects your investment.....The 280 mentioned hasn't brought the big pay day expected on this occasion, and may well never reach itAndrew 2.8i wrote:It's interesting that the auctioneer from H&H observed about the 280 that "several people bought them to just sit on them as an investment".
The auction estimate places it at the very top end of the market, but can the prices really rise much further than that? With that in mind, it wouldn't appeal to anybody intending to buy it as an investment. Perhaps the classic car market in general is in decline, as I notice in the auction results that a lot of the cars didn't reach their estimate.
Having been part of a private collection, this 280 has extremely low mileage and has only covered 300 miles in the last 14 years and hasn't even been taxed since 1997. This must be one of the very best 280s out there.

I wonder if it's a permanent home or dealer.Nigel 1953 wrote:The black laser C450SOY sold for £15,000

I completely relate to this..... whenever I chat to someone about my project, the first thing they say is "Is it a 2.8?"D366Y wrote: Considering that there is a lovely "one owner" 2.8I for £18k and also a nice black 3.0S (imported from Ireland) for £14k, I think I'd have to seriously question why someone would pay £15k for what I think we all have to admit will be less desirable, mainly because of the engine size!
Everytime anyone sees my 1.6 the first thing they come up and say after going 'wow I used to have one of these' is always "is it a 2.8?" because people only ever seem to remember there ever being 2.8's or 3.0's. The laser here is a lovely car but for the same money you can get a 2.8 in the same condition and I know which I'd rather have...
All we hear on the XROC stand "Is it a Cosworth"?timfromull wrote:I completely relate to this..... whenever I chat to someone about my project, the first thing they say is "Is it a 2.8?"D366Y wrote: Considering that there is a lovely "one owner" 2.8I for £18k and also a nice black 3.0S (imported from Ireland) for £14k, I think I'd have to seriously question why someone would pay £15k for what I think we all have to admit will be less desirable, mainly because of the engine size!

Then they trot out the usual garb about them knowing a mate of a mate who had one back in the day and had to carry paving slabs/bag of cement/spare wheel well of concrete.........yawwwwn by then I've glazed over and narcolepsy kicks in...
They seem disappointed when I finally get a word in about it being a 2 ltr......
Haha at least we all get the same treatment then! Having to listen to the stories of people who "honestly" "definitely" had a Capri with a cosworth engine straight out of the factory and that's how it came, or the never ending stories of stupid things people did "back in the day" with them and how they could wheelspin the car in third gear it was so quickandyd wrote:All we hear on the XROC stand "Is it a Cosworth"?timfromull wrote:I completely relate to this..... whenever I chat to someone about my project, the first thing they say is "Is it a 2.8?"D366Y wrote: Considering that there is a lovely "one owner" 2.8I for £18k and also a nice black 3.0S (imported from Ireland) for £14k, I think I'd have to seriously question why someone would pay £15k for what I think we all have to admit will be less desirable, mainly because of the engine size!

No the XR4i and 4x4 are rarer, and the 4i precedes the Cossie
