I wonder why some cars seem to come up for sale an awful lot. Is this one just being passed around from dealer to dealer?
Nice car, but I can't see it reaching the auction estimate.
Andrew.
Re: 4500 mile Laser
Maybe it's the problem with some low mileage cars, people are scared to put any miles on the clock so move them on againAndrew 2.8i wrote:Hi Andy, andyd wrote:Doing the rounds again http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C862249

Maybe it's because like many of us say; a car is bought to be driven and enjoyed, if it has no miles on it and you pay loads of money you'd be scared to put anymore miles on it and downvalue an expensive investment?andyd wrote:Maybe it's the problem with some low mileage cars, people are scared to put any miles on the clock so move them on againAndrew 2.8i wrote:Hi Andy, andyd wrote:Doing the rounds again http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C862249

I don't care how many miles a car has in if I'm thinking of buying it, if anything low miles would put me off if its a car that I actually want to drive?? Sure if its a Model T I'll never be driving it far, but if it's a capri/escort/GTI/Beetle or whatever your fancy is then I wouldn't want it to sit in the garage and never move so couldn't justify paying rocket money for a car and feel crap everytime I drive it as I watch it decrease in value as each mile adds on...

Re: 4500 mile Laser
Hi,
Good points made, but it doesn't appear to be the case here. The car has only had 2 owners from new, so it can't have been sold to new owners each time it had been offered for sale.
Andrew.

So that probably means dealers have been 'sat on it' waiting for the prices to rise.....

Hopefully they won't have left a dent in the roof...........andyd wrote:So that probably means dealers have been 'sat on it'
Sadly, I think you're right. Will the market ever catch up with the seemingly ever-increasing price that is being asked?

Not as long as some people are prepared to pay over the top prices......

That's probably it Andy, yes. The old 'too good to drive' thing perhaps? Which could in fact be a negative selling point to many people.andyd wrote: Maybe it's the problem with some low mileage cars

If it had done no miles (Very Unlikely) that's one thing, if it has 10 miles do you just carry on driving it as intended?
Not sure the point in keeping mileage low if it's already done 4500 miles in this case.
Cars need to be driven as they will deteriorate, I have seen this first hand with a collector I know, always having something worked on but not driving 90% of his collection
None of us would choose to lose money on our cars if we sold them, but in certain circumstances cars are just ISA's for some people....
Afraid to lose a penny

I'll cut out all the irrelevant guff for you ......andyd wrote:I would read it, but I have to be at Beaulieu on Sunday
Low mileage car, resprayed down both sides by the seller because of various dings and scrapes.

Yes, I remember now....I wonder if the auction house know or would lead you to believe it was all original??Andrew 2.8i wrote:I'll cut out all the irrelevant guff for you ......andyd wrote:I would read it, but I have to be at Beaulieu on Sunday

Re: 4500 mile Laser
Why buy a car and not use it ?
My wife checked https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk the other night and said there are only 2836 capris on the road so not many and you have all been parked up or driving along and got smiles people giving you the thumps up and when I was parked outside a ford dealers the other week with two brand new mustangs parked next to me . And the salesman said Christ that's a first people are going for your Capri and walking past the mustangs .
It's ok to have them parked up in a garage and to look at but the real deal is to drive them .
Must say if I won the lotto I would buy to many capris to drive and have some old garage . And yes I would also get a Aston martin .

Re: 4500 mile Laser
I seriously think it will struggle to get to the estimate and £10-£12K is where I see it.andyd wrote: £10k tops
It sold on the open market in August 2013 for under £10K, the top end of the auction estimate is £18K. Has it really nearly doubled in value in 4 years?
Andrew.

Re: 4500 mile Laser
Hi,
I don't see the sides of the car having been sprayed is an issue. In fact, if the bodywork needed attention I'd rather see that the work has been done instead of it needing to be done. Some buyers may see the lack of originality as a problem though, and that may affect the final sale price. If it does reach the high estimate, to my knowledge it will be the highest price ever paid for a Laser. Although the Hagerty tool does value them at £18,800 in concours condition.
Andrew.
