"Fairly quick for an old car."
Is it true the 4 speeds will get to 90 in second gear if you take it up to the rev limiter?

strangely sparse description of the cars history.
Looks like its been dragged out a shed, put back on the road and had a quick respray.

90 in top gear  Cant imagine doing it in 2nd, the pistons would be dancing on top of the bonnet......3rd gear more than likely. Someone will no doubt know.

Mine felt quick and would pull strong in all gears.

Hi Andy,
Looks nice on the outside, and it's a gorgeous colour, but what is the recent respray hiding underneath?
I like to see an under the bonnet photo though, as inevitably any shortcuts in the standard of the restoration can be seen there.
The situation seems fairly common, but why would a genuine seller pay for a respray then sell the car straight away?

:agree: Andrew,
I would want to see pictures of any repairs and preparation etc.

Been off the road for sometime pre MOT 2015, and unless it's not been undersealed, you cant easily tell if it's had welding in the past imo.....

A few later 2.8s I've spotted. Most seem to be advertised for over £10K now.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C863654
http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C851410

It's funny that when somebody comes onto the forum searching for a 2.8 there's nothing around, but when nobody is searching for them there are loads for sale.

1981 GL Auto 2.0, Barn-Find-Resto, now also a runaround project
1980 3.0S, crash damage resto
1993 Fiesta 1.1

Currently full up and no more space but I still want a 2.8...

I'm still keeping my eyes open for some V6 power Andrew! Keep them coming, these look good but need my house purchase to go through before I can commit to buying one :)

Hi Danny,
Come on, get your priorities right......the V6 comes first, the house is less important!
Seriously though, I'll keep my eyes peeled for suitable V6 cars. :)

That's what I keep telling my better half but she is so far only saying I can bring one of the capris with me, but I'll sneak the second and third ones along when she isn't looking....

Cheers

My old 4 speed did 55 in 1st, 85 in 2nd, 115 in 3rd then would go onto 135ish in top according to the speedo. The car was only 3 years old back then and I wouldn't suggest anyone drive one like that now, as the chances are it would blow up big style  You would also need to find a private road or go to Germany and find an autobahn!

Hi Neil,
If the speedo was to be believed, that was very impressive for an early 80's car :D

Yeah Andy I wonder how accurate the speedo's were back then. 80mph on my current Capri shows 75mph on the sat nav! Not sure, but I think Ford gave a top speed of 130mph, but I sometimes wonder if this was just to push sales and not that realistic.

Autocar roadtested the 2.8 in the 20th June 1981 edition and achieved a genuine top speed of 127MPH and 0-60 in 7.9s.However, they used to test all cars with a full tank of petrol, test equipment and with a passenger on board. With just the driver, and without all the gear, I would have thought that 130MPH was possible (on a good day!).

I saw those figures too when I searched earlier.....I wouldn't want to do 127mph in a Capri :headscratch:

Final bid £9600 reserve not met......

As with the white 3.0S yesterday at £14200, again I'm surprised this didn't make more.......Are Capri prices starting to level out

This Laser sold at Poole car auctions last week for £5k plus fees https://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/ford ... aser-1986/
I would say that was a good realistic value for a car of that standard. Possibly a sign things have settled a bit!

That'll probably turn up for sale on some dealer's website for £9000 in the next couple of weeks.

I think you're correct. A lot of private buyers seem to be reluctant to buy from car auctions, leaving the way clear for the trade to pick up cars at a good price.
