Capri Mark 1
Hello All.
Thank you for accepting my application into this forum, I guess I have an interest in Capris [any model] which is the same as everyone, a cool family member had one, Terry from Minder had one, Boddie & Doyle drove one, mate had one. Now i'm older I have sparked an interest in them again. I'm looking for a Mk 1 Capri. It would need to be solid and drivable, however I am prepared to take on a medium refurb / resto.
Can anyone offer advice where to look?
Cheers

Welcome to the forum!
Ford cars needing some restoration work, it's probably best to look in the usual places such as Ebay and carandclassic.co.uk.
For (generally) better condition cars you check the auction house websites, as many of the cars sold at these auctions later turn up on Ebay at inflated prices.

Good luck with your search.

There's been a couple of South African imports doing the rounds recently, really solid cars, right hand drive and not silly money.
For some reason they don't seem to command the kind of stupid figures being touted for U.K rubbish.

Yes, don't discount this as an option. Met workmate Gary in the Coleford festival of transport on Monday, he was showing this 1600 Sport his son imported from South Africa last year, the cost: £6k. The only rust was in the lower rear quarters. Very solid for its age. Good luck in your search.Caprigear wrote:There's been a couple of South African imports doing the rounds recently, really solid cars, right hand drive and not silly money.

I worked with a chap 30+ years ago, and he had one of these in Red with the 4 spots on it, always wanted one but it didn't happen

I bought it from a family member, as my parents needed something to use while their car was off the road.

I've seen a black / blue mark 1 on eBay.
It looked a bit ropey around the engine bay and the inside looks rough as old boots.
Would this be a good entry level capri to look at as a first car?

Re: Capri Mark 1
Good Morning All.
I know this will be a very subjective question, based on mileage, condition, originality. spec, special history etc. What would be "average" values for Mk 1 Capri's for each model trim.
I have seen prices on a few 1.6 GT Xl recently from 3,000.00 to 7,000.00 [GBP] ranging from rolling project to light restoration required and a final usable daily drive. One on Ebay went for around 6.5k recently. One of these was a cracking orange one that had most of the bits to finish but I missed out by a few days.
What values are 2.0Gt, 3.0Gt, 3.0GXL etc fetching.
I've seen a 3.0 South African import for around 5.75k. Also a 2.0 GT XLR auto for around 9k. Are these reasonable values?
I'm still looking, and as this will be my first purchase I want to ensure that I make the right decision. I appreciate any replies.
Cheers all and thanks.
