Any condition with V5 wanted
Hi Guys,
New to the forum, extremely envious of your cars!
I've always wanted a Capri as my dad owned 5 of them and it really is the car I always promised myself. My wife arrange for me to hire a 280 for my 30th and the addiction to the Capri has only enhanced.
I have set myself the objective of having a Capri of my own and having a track day at Spa for my 40th. With Baby no 3 now on the way, money is going to be a problem, so I am looking for a cheap rolling chassis to love rebuild over the next 8 years. Anything that anyone has to offer I would like to speak with you. Thanks

Thanks Peter.
I've messaged him to see where it goes, fingers crossed.
main reason i wanted wheels though is the simplicity of trailering it away.

Re: Any condition with V5 wanted
auction listing for shell mentioned above ended without selling. I sent two offers and left two messages with my mobile number - no response.
This has come up though, and close to home. Wondered what the opinion was on what its worth bidding?

I think you will have a lot of welding lol:
Hard to tell when the pictures are crap, if its close to home why not go have a poke around at it before bidding to make it it's relatively sound?

Your right and I think I'll be paying a visit tomorrow.
I think my budget will always mean fighting the rust
This will be my first (and hopefully only) project. I'm not expecting to go through a car was and come out the other side with a show car.
Making the assumption that all future work will need to be done by myself, at home in a standard garage or driveway; when I have a look tomorrow, any advice on where to draw the line and walk away?

A slightly belated to the forum!
I think the price of this car will rise by another few hundred by the end of the auction, and it's already at more than I would be prepared to pay.
I think there are better and more complete cars out there if you are prepared to wait for them to come on to the market. If you are on a budget, don't forget that the price of parts, even to build a track car, will be expensive. If you're doing the repair work yourself, a 4 cylinder shell might be a better starting point as comparable condition ones to the shell in the Ebay link sell for less.
Andrew.

Hi,
Plus, at the moment, it doesn't fulfil your criteria of having a V5.......

Re: Any condition with V5 wanted
I agree with some of Andrew's points, this is a pretty bad condition of a shell, but it depends on how much you want to pay to start off with? Lets say that hypothetically this sells for £700? for £1500 you could get something with wheels for a start but also much more likely to be more complete...Shederic wrote:Your right and I think I'll be paying a visit tomorrow.

Personally I'd draw the line if there are any major structural parts of the car that need to be repaired if you are doing it yourself... Chassis Rails/bulkhead that are rusted to buggery probably won't be much fun and take an absolute lifetime to repair or if there are creases in the metal it could be indicative of a crash at some point which means things might not be straight when you come back to re-aligning it...
At the end of the day any shell can be saved, it just depends how much new metal will be needed to make it road worthy again!

Re: Any condition with V5 wanted
Thanks Andrew & D366Y
I think ultimately, its worth what ever someone pays for it - but we all want the best value for money!
I have no intention of making a particular type of capri; fast, slow, modified or standard. Id be happy just to drive the thing, what ever it is. If I could get a 1.6 in more of a complete condition I would do, but having little luck finding a Gem to love.
I have tried to contact seller to arrange a viewing tomorrow, gives me a chance to see whats what and try not to let heart rule the head.

It looks as though all the good bits have been stripped already. I'd be surprised if there was much more than £721 ( the current high bid) worth of parts on it.

someone had removed the engine, gearbox, rad and wheels, but everything was on there. Just add wheels and it was ready to roll off to the garage. But the description of "some rust not rotten", was a little over ambitious.

Re: Any condition with V5 wanted
Hi,
This one might be worth keeping an eye on. It's a little more expensive than some of the others that have been posted here, but it is a complete car.

Hi,
A project, but it is a runner. The seller hasn't got a V5 though.
