capri 2.0 laser mot'd on road project £2300 updated!

Post by jamezz666 »

Make: ford

Model: capri

Trim: laser

Year:1985

Engine: 2.0

Mot: 3/10/17

Location: Redditch

Previous owners: 9

Mileage: 95,986

Modifications

1. K&N air filter

2. fast road cam

3. sportex 4-2-1 manifold with rest of exhaust system

4. duck tail spoiler

5. mk2 rear bumper

6. front bumper corners

7. Alloy wheels

8. Wood dash facia

9. mk1 escort ribbed gear stick gaiter

10. white ball gear knob

11. kepad locking/alarm and immobiliser

12. tex style mirrors

13. electronic ignition

14. adjustable cam pulley

jobs to do off the top of my head

1. the little plastic door lock pulls needed

2. It some times pre ignites ( some times starts back up for a second, when the ignition is turned off)

3. needs a repaint and a tart up of body work

4. pulls to the right and does more when brake is applied

5. boot lid adjusting as it's slightly over to one side

6. sunroof handle fitting ( which i do have but is missing the little plastic end)

7. no radio (uncut dash board)

8. cracks in dash

9. clutch seems a little high but not slipping at all (maybe adjustment needed)

10. boot struts

11. needs seals that sit on the door that rub against the windows on the outside

12. rocker cover gasket (leaking oil)

can't remember of anything else, but remember it's 32 years old and there's bound to be more small things to do as you would find on any old car.

This is not a minter!

The car runs and drives, with some good pulling power for an old car. The carburetor since being put on, has caused the pre igniting and has developed what i can only describe as a tinging/ pinging sound? so what ever the problem, it's something to do with the car as it never use to do it with the old twin carbs. But it still seems to drive alright with some good pulling power.

The passenger side rear arch did have a replacement panel, but the filler that went on top has absorbed moist and now the paint has cracked through as see in the pictures.

From what i can see, there is a couple patches of welding that has been done to the floor for the mot.

Rear break line was replaced on the last mot along with a steering rack gaitor

The reg is transferable if that takes anyone's interest.

car comes with some old mot's/ tax discs and receipts.

I have the original spoiler, if you would want that.

Looks better in the pictures, Viewing best

Any questions feel free to ask

Thanks

You would think so! But the amount of people keep messaging on different sites saying it's 500 quid and only worth 1800 tops it's completely rediculous... There's too many time wasters and dreamers... I know I've put a lot in and personal opinion, I still think there's money to be made if people wanna do it up and sell on. I know it's not for the purists, but I have near everything and more to change it back and more spares on top

I'd buy this if I was sure I'd be able to drive it home ok with the current carb setup. Has it got an electronic fuel pump?

Cheers

You could drive it, but as i keep saying to everyone, it's not going to drive like new as the carbs need setting so it's an uncomfortable drive. I was driving it for an hour the other day, as i had to take a few friends on a fancy dress run but i mean it's not that it's completely undrivable...
think i might start changing as much back to standard soon if it's not gone and then stick it back up at the same price, because by the sounds of some of the messages i'm getting, know one wants a modified capri :/

Where are you from?

Yes, unfortunately people are morons. I had a mint, rare near all original 1.6gl auto, had all its original history and paperwork too including original owners manual and Ford catalogue! Had less than 70k miles if I remember correctly, even that I got moronic offers for, hell I struggled to sell it for a profit/what it was worth and owed us after some light resto work.
Seems it doesn't matter what you have, unless it's a mint 2.8i your always gonna get some self entitled imbecile think he's clever or the next Mike Brewer.
Hold your ground though and keep at it, it's worth every penny even if you have to put it back to stock.
