Looking for 280 or Special

Post by Stevie P »

Probably a fair to good 280, or a mint Special.

What's available, eBay seems to have a lot of lower level cars.

There was a nice Blue Special, £13.5K, but that was in Northern Island.

Any recommendations of known cars for sale?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi,
Welcome to the forum! :welcome:
I don't know of any cars for sale, however, a lot of cars matching your critera seem to be sold through the auction houses.
Probably the best is Anglia Car Auctions.

Keep an eye on Car and Classic too.

Good luck with your search.

Hi Steve and welcome.
As Andrew said, constantly check Auction sites, Ebay, Car and Classic, Pistonheads, Autotrader, Gumtree
and the Cars for sale/wanted section on here

Hi,
You don't mention a budget, but I thought I'd post the link anyway.

Thanks Andrew

I am looking up to mid £20s, if I can get a 280 for that.

2.8 Specials seem to be below £10k, may go down to Mores in Somerset, they have a Special that is £11,500, said to be a show winner.

Does anyone know this 280 that will be at auction from the site you listed E42 PNX.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,
Mores have some nice cars in stock, and the Capri seems a really good price.

RE; 280
I saw the car in 2014, and it is was a really great example.
The owner at the time from Portishead area, told me it was repainted but it is a really good job. He bought for £9000 in 2014 from Essex IIRC.

It has been on and off the market the last 12 months or so.....

Andrew has seen it too and I think he will agree :)

Hi,
Sad person that I am, I've been through my indexed photo collection, and I'm not familiar with this particular 280, unfortunately.

Andy, are you confusing it with E88BNO?

Hi Andrew,
You're right

E42PNX was used in the Ebay 'Scam' Ad..... I think :headscratch:

Hi Steve,
Although I haven't seen the car in person, judging by the photos, it seems reasonably priced.
I would say that it's a little cheeky advertising the car as a 24,000 miler, when the description states that it's covered 24,000 since the restoration in 1997. Unless the restoration was a nut and bolt complete restoration, including all bodywork, engine, transmission and suspension components, I would be a little wary about the condition of some of the parts. They may have been on the car for years and covered far more than 24,000 miles.
Other than that, I think the car is definitely worth a look.

All the best,
Andrew.
