My Old 280

I had this car briefly in 2008 with 54,000 miles on it before getting my 10,000 miler, both from Dr B.

It says unrestored, but I was led to believe by Chris (Dr B) that it was painted around 1998, and it had a new interior prior to 2008. There were a couple of rust bubbles coming through after 10 years, so don't know what it's like 8 years later :? It does look great in the pics though :)

It's had some £££'s spent on it over the last 8 years......

Good price will be watching (Not Bidding)

Dr B's pictures from when I bought it 2008 http://www.brooklands280.com/54000.htm

Hi Andy

The 280 looks very well in the pics, good history and low miles.... Wouldn't be surprised if it went for more if it checks out.

Bet you missed it at times...

Hi Des,
I miss all my old Fords in a way, but not the price of new and used spares though

I wonder how much a 10,000 miler from Dr B would be these days?

That's a difficult one, as he never seems to overprice his cars, although they aren't cheap either if that makes sense :?:
Mine was repainted in 2007 as it was in storage for the previous 18 years and had suffered a few knocks and laquer had been affected.

I don't know who paints the Dr's cars, but the paint finish was fantastic and like new.
If that car came up now in that condition and mileage, I would say he would ask about £30K? As it was not original, but needed nothing !

Hi Andy,
Better than new, probably. Ford paint finishes weren't the best on the 280!

I see even Dr B is speaking out about what he sees as "crazy" prices. He's not wrong!

He has not had anything for sale for some time now, and has taken to selling other versions of Capri as it seems good 280's are thin on the ground :(

Hi Andy,
Tomorrow is the day....

There are some nice cars being sold, I'll have to definitely check out the results. The Sinclair C5 looks like a bargain at only £400-600. Much less physically demanding than a chopper! :D

So it has. It's still listed for sale on Ebay, but then so are some other cars that are shown on the Facebook page as sold.
Although it was relatively expensive, I'm sure the new owner will be very pleased with it.

I would say nearer 40k in the open market/auction. Maybe 30 to 35 with the Dr?

Hi Andrew,
I had an open mind on it TBH, but with the description I'm surprised it didn't make £20K......

IMO alot of the cars there seemed to be fairly priced with the odd exception.

The red mk1 3.0 went for less than I expected, someone did well getting that!
I thought the red 2.8i would make more, but still it was over the asking price it had before.

This familiar red 3.0S is for sale by a trader, almost twice as much now;

Hi Andy,
That's naughty! Is it a case of caveat emptor at car auctions, or is there some recourse if a vehicle is incorrectly described?
I would feel sorry for the new owner if they found out about the odometer change after reading this thread.....

Andrew.
Have spoken to, and emailed H and H with the true mileage.

The vendor will be asked to reconsider his wording.

If the vendor reads this, you should be ashamed of yourself, IF you know the stated mileage is incorrect!!
Dr B would back this too, being one of his ex cars......

EDIT;
This car has done approx 57000 miles if anyone is interested.
Dr B still has a copy of the paperwork and confirmation of the Speedo change at approx 24000 miles!!
