1986 Capri 2.8i Special For Sale £6500ONO

Post by phoenixcapri »

I bought this a couple of months back to use as my daily car this summer and have put an MOT on it (MOT till 24/03/17), but sadly my Mk1 Capri hill climb car is bleeding me dry so I need to raise some funds! Would love to keep this as it always turns heads and puts a smile on your face, but needs must.

Has all the correct Special bits, and LSD works well. It was restored a few years ago to a good standard, with many new parts and a complete mechanical overhaul. It has been done to look like a 3.0S, with orange paint (logbook is correct) and the other features to match (removed rubbing strips etc.) – for me this is the best colour on a Mk3 Capri and I think it looks amazing.

Restoration included:
• Engine rebuild
• Fitted tubular exhaust manifolds
• Reconditioned radiator
• Everything painted, even gearbox, axle etc.
• All suspension bushes replaced with polyurethane items
• New rear springs
• New front wings
• New sill
• New lower rear quarter panels
• Full respray, including underside
• Reconditioned fuel tank with stainless steel straps
• New glass seals
• Fuel system recondition

The body is still in good condition, totally solid and rot free. There were a few blemishes on the underside, these have been treated and coated with underbody paint. The upper body is generally good, couple of touched up chips/blemishes here and there – the sort you only notice when cleaning it.

The last owner kept the car to a good standard and used the car regularly. In the last year it has had:
• New battery
• New starter motor
• New alternator
• New fuel pump
• New front callipers and pads
• New front track control arms
• New spark plugs, HT leads and rotor arm
• A new full Ashley exhaust system, with all new mounts – sounds great

In the time I’ve had it I’ve repaired/replaced some trim, tidied up the paint a bit, serviced/tuned the engine and sorted a few minor issues. The car now starts (even on a very cold day), runs and drives as it should; everything works properly and I think it looks great too. It’s ready to enjoy, I planned to use it often, so have not gone to concourse standards, but it is in very good order. If you wanted to make it really really nice, new carpets, and bit of paint on the bonnet and a re-trim would make it mint, but personally I’d say it would then be too nice to use and enjoy regularly, and properly.

Things done in the last few weeks:
• Conditioned leather, repaired some defects and recoloured front seats (not perfect but good for original leather)
• Replaced lower dash trim (due to paint wear, cracks and aftermarket holes)
• Replaced heater blower motor and rebuilt heater box with new seals
• Replaced the tailgate light and wiper switches/feeds
• Replaced the warm up regulator (now starts and warms up properly – not a lot of 2.8i’s seem to do this!)
• Engine timing and fuelling tuned, plus general service.
• Flushed coolant system and filled with new coolant
• Resprayed front and rear valances and bumpers to repair some stone chips
• Completely rebuilt the sunroof mechanism (now fits correctly and moves as it should)
• Replaced rear speakers with new items (originals were badly degraded)
• Fitted correct type front speakers – also worth noting the door cards are uncut, and in good condition.
• Fitted a more period looking stereo (CD player, but looks more at home than one covered in twinkly lights)
• Removed and refitted all rear trim to fix some rattles
• Replaced passenger side mirror
• Topped up gearbox oil (didn’t really need any, just for peace of mind)
• Replaced speedo cable
• Adjusted throttle cable
• Adjusted clutch cable
• Replaced rear dampers

Basically it’s a great looking, great driving 2.8i that’s ready to enjoy. Plus if you bought a nice, but standard car you’d also have to spend a good amount of money to make it drive like this one does. In fact it’s so charming that I’m having to stop my wife stealing it – she already has a Mk2, she doesn’t need another summer day car!

£7000 ONO

Please give me a call, 07860 274834, if you have any questions or want to come have a look – but please, no tyre kickers. More than happy to take people for a proper drive in it as well, so you can confirm it lives up to its billing.

That's a nice looking motor. I really like Capris in orange too.

Sounds as though someone will be getting a bargain at that price.

:goodluck: with the sale.

Are you advertising anywhere else currently? I'd have thought at £7k you wouldn't struggle in the current market.
