Should I get this... and is it fairly priced?
Should I get this... and is it fairly priced?
Firstly I'm new to the forum and capri's, so would like to say hello and ask for advice!
Thinking of getting a Capri I have seen for sale..
Ford Capri mk3 1979 (Mk2 grill)
78,800 miles
1.6l with single ford carb
Re spray prior to storage
All sills and engine have been sudged to prevent rust.
Starting, driving, stopping 100%
New brake disks, master cylinder and rear brake cylinders
New tyres
New spark plugs, leads, condenser and points.
Very honest car
Some spares
Last year with ability to avail of classic tax/ NCT exempt.
Original tax book.
New tyres
Whats a fair price? seen mixed prices online
Thanks for any help!

They are all a rip off these days it's a total joke. It's a ford Capri at the end of the day not a bloody e type jag.
My advice is save yourself a load of grief. Buy a modern car and spend your time doing something more constructive and fulfilling with your money. Don't waste your time and cash.
Get a girlfriend, take up a sport. Get a good job. Settle down and get married then take up fishing or something.

100% mate. I dread to think of the money I've spent on old crap heaps over the last 25 years. And that's not just having a car like normal people that's sorting out heaps that have been through the wars plus spending on overpriced tuning parts etc. I've wasted so much money on shit it's simply unreal.peers.dupp wrote:Hi,Terra-Kotta wrote:My advice is save yourself a load of grief. My kids would have really benefitted from that money if I'm honest, or far more spent than a deposit on a house etc. I'm sick to the back teeth of overpriced cars parts etc.
Re: Should I get this... and is it fairly priced?
Well that constructive! maybe you should sell your car if it makes you so unhappy!
The plan was to buy a stock Capri use it as my DD so as not to put milage on my proper sports cars!!
No plan to drive the nuts out of it or ruin it with cheap kits and over priced parts.
Cheap tax, cheap insurance, cheep to run, and a bit of fun!
Thought it was a little on the high side thats why I'm here they all seem to be going for well over prices I had expected...

Hi,
From your description the car sounds decent enough. You can only really make a judgement whether it's good value by comparing the price with other cars for sale.

well tera, you seem to be a real barrel of laughs, classic cars are to be enjoyed, if your family had had you around all the time instead of being out under some vehicle, you would have driven them into a loony house with all that raveing.
If the Capri in question is the one wanted, then the price, compared to some of the modern crap at that price would be well worth it, if only for the friendship and fun owning such a car

I think it's fair to say that classic cars don't make sound financial sense, but buying one for potential financial gain is missing the point.

Nearly all interesting pass times cost. Just find one that suits your budget and go and enjoy it
Re: Should I get this... and is it fairly priced?
But surely, if you use your head & don`t pay over the odds, in a couple of years you will at least get back what you paid for it? Compare that to the depreciation of a new car in it`s first 3 years.peers.dupp wrote:I think it's fair to say that classic cars don't make sound financial sense

Steve,
Yes, that's true. What I really meant to say was that the enjoyment of classic ownership far outweighs any profit that may be gained from an increase of values.

Seven I have not got a clue if it is a good price or not as you say in euros that means to me you aren't from the UK so I would not have a clue what car prices are from were you come from, the only thing I would say is if you are happy with spending that amount of money on that car get it as if it is a good one you may have a long look trying to find another one as good.
And don't forget sods law if you buy something next week something better comes up cheaper.
