280 For Sale..... well kinda!!??
Probably been discussed somewhere already but although it might be perfectly legal I am not sure I agree with this item that i just spotted on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-CAPRI-28 ... 259272c1bc
A few years down the line you could be the poor guy that pays top dollar for a tidy brooklands that was only ever a brooklands on paper as far as the car goes.....
What do you guys think?
Stuart.

Complete new one on me. I probably should know the legalities but I don't. Either way, it is not something I would buy - I kind of expect a car with my V5.

Re: 280 For Sale..... well kinda!!??
What I do happen to know from my line of work re: legalities is that disposing of the V5 can happen if there has been or is to be a fraudulent transaction over a vehicle e.g. vehicle is restored and insured to agreed value, reported stolen (when not), never recovered and insurance is paid out. The vehicle is then cloned, which requires another V5, and either sold on or retained as the 'replacement' for the 'stolen' vehicle.
I clearly stress that I DO NOT AND WOULD NOT suggest that to be the case here. Some quick research has shown people sell V5s as memorabilia.
I would want to know a convincing reason for it and the price of £1,500 if for any reason I was minded to buy it.
Apparently, the ebay policy prevents sale of V5 without the vehicle http://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/governme ... ems-policy
I note from other forums that such items have been reported and removed by ebay, on one occasion after the auction ended

Hi,
There's only one reason people sell V5s.
And yes, if reported, the item will be removed from Ebay.

A DVLA search shows that car to have not been taxed or SORN'd since 1993. No reason why an unscrupulous so-and-so couldn't pop the numberplate on his freshly painted Brooklands Green Capri and make what they call a ringer. Then sell it for decidedly more than it was worth.
One wonders what happened to the original car. Assume it's been lying in someone's garden for 21 years, broken and not declared. You didn't have to declare SORN until 1998.
Here's hoping any potential buyers check chassis & engine numbers.

Some very bad people might even transfer the chassis number onto a 280 that has been half-inched. It's a minefield out there for the unwary.

Re: 280 For Sale..... well kinda!!??
First off. I think about half the 280s now are 2.8i reshells.
Secondly if rather have a reshelled 280 that used an early 2.8i shell. The metalwork and undersealed quality on D reg onwards fords was total shit. Recycled steel. Thinner metals and undersealed that bubbles and cracks and holds water.
The last 280 I broke rusted unseen underneath the underseal. The panels rusted and the only thing that kept the shape was the underseal that crumbled in my hands.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that being a bit naughty?

I think the shell is the only original thing on mine.Terra-Kotta wrote:How many capris at shows do you think are on the original shell. Lol. I know of one on its 3rd shell.
I'm the one who leaves all those shoes in the carriageway.
