Re: 2.8injection only 57000 miles
hi
I am one of the previous owners of this car and I sold it with a set of RS seven spokes and small numbers on the plate she had done over 120k when sold about 15 years ago, I have pictures of my old car to prove if needed she was in good condition when sold, I smashed the front end up but was repaired
thanks Shaun
nice to see she is still around had many good times in her

Makes you think though - what if you hadn`t spotted it? 120k 15 years ago !!!
Personally I wouldn`t believe half the `genuine 49000ml` crap. People didn`t buy these cars then put them into storage as an investment, they were driven everyday for at least a decade or so. They`ve all been round the clock, the only thing that matters is the bodywork, regardless.

You're probably right about that. I think that it's almost impossible to verify the mileage of any classic car.stevemarl wrote:Personally I wouldn`t believe half the `genuine 49000ml` crap.
For example, what's to stop someone travelling, say, 8000 miles a year and winding the clock back 5000 miles just before each MOT? As far as the MOTs will be concerned it will look as though the car has only been used for 3000 miles each year. There's no way of checking. The only way somebody can truly know the history of a car is if it's been owned by that person from new.

Good point well made Andrew, Mines supposed to have done 49k with good history and nearly all MOTs to prove, do I belive it not really but how do you prove it, I bought on condition which was excellent I think that's all you can do, MOTs in the old days were simple to fiddle as was clocking, peers.dupp wrote:You're probably right about that. Andrew.
You could buy an MOT cert anywhere.

Hi Dave,Hollyoak wrote:I bought on condition which was excellent I think that's all you can do,
I agree. Personally, I think that with a classic car, the condition it's in now is more important than service history. It sounds like you've bought a good 'un.
That's just it, clocking was commonplace back in the day. A quick google search confirms that there are plenty of companies offering the service, although I suppose it's a little bit harder to fiddle these days with computerised records.Hollyoak wrote: MOTs in the old days were simple to fiddle as was clocking.
