Post by Sam721 »

1985 2.0 Ford Capri Laser
Solid rust free car
Mot till November and passed with no advisorys, mot guy commented on how good underneath was for a 29 year old car!
Tax till end of may
106360 miles on the clock (will rise slightly as its used daily)

Bodywork-
Had a full respray in a one off metallic pearl purple/mulberry (have paint mix info if ever need to match the paint)
One off smooth front valance
Discrete Led indicators in headlight bezel
Wing bumper mount holes welded and smoothed
Side mouldings removed/smoothed
Ariel hole smoothed
Rear wiper and washer removed and smoothed
Spoiler removed and smoothed
Rear valance completely smoothed
Rear lights smoked (easily removed if needed)
New metal pressed rear plate

Engine-
New Cambelt kit
New fan belt
New water pump
New 82deg thermostat and housing
New plugs and silicone performance leads
New accuspark electronic ignition, lucas sports coil, rotor arm and dizzy cap
Full carb rebuild plus ramair filter
New oil and filter
Coolant flush and fresh stuff added
Fresh brake fluid (all brake pipes very good condition)
New fuel pipes from carb to middle section
4-2-1 manifold heat-wrapped with new gaskets & copper nuts then new sportex system fitted
Very good battery fitted
Various wires/pipes tidied up, anything that has been removed has been replaced or cleaned/painted

Suspension/brakes-
New -2" 145lb front springs, cleaned/painted struts and lower arms
Front callipers rebuilt
Discs and pads showed hardly any signs of wear so they were cleaned and re used
Spax adjustable rear shocks and same story with the rear drums/shoes, All good
Handbrake works perfect

Wheels-
Standard 4 spoke laser rs style wheels, just had a refurb and in very good condition apart from some dinks from previous curbing but no damage or buckles
4x 185 70 13 tyres that were new when the car was mot'd so still have brillant tread. No tracking wear or damage

Interior-
Full shark grey recaro interior, good condition apart from some wear to the drivers seat
No rips in headlining or carpet
Overall the interior is pretty good and just needs a good wash which i was going to do when the weather warms up otherwise it will never dry!
Heater blows hot and works on both settings
Everything works as it should including rear screen heater
Windows go up and down smoothly
Sunroof works fine

It starts first time everytime, drives lovely and pulls very well. Gets attention wherever it goes and really does stand out from the crowd. Its very straight and solid, no rust issues underneath, good on fuel.
In excellent condition even though its used daily and has always been reliable.

Theres a few little loose ends i haven't got round to sorting yet which are mainly interior related such as installing the trim panel for sunroof, getting a replacement tailgate trim panel, dash fascia clips have broke so it doesn't sit completely where it should.

I have the original laser interior which can be included in the sale, along with the original airbox, cam belt cover, various spares ect. I also have a few old tax discs and receipts for parts.

Pretty sure i have covered everything but any questions just ask.
Will be sad to see this go but i want to start a new project so need to fund it.
I'm after £4000 but open to sensible offers around this mark
I'm based in witham, essex. Feel free to come view and test drive.

The car looks great.. but.. I'm pretty sure the lower holes in the nose are for cooling the brakes..
I'm the one who leaves all those shoes in the carriageway.

Right after a tyre kickers and messers the capri is still for sale. I have realized i have been a bit optimistic price wise so it's now up for £3200 which was the price it sold at but i got messed around. I unfortunately hit a pheasant and it has put a small dent on the front corner of the bonnet and its now showing signs of the classic capri noisy heater but it still works fine, Both of these reflect on the price.
Need this gone Asap as brought a new car now.

Not exactly Tom,
On the Mk3 Ford introduced the aerofoil section front grille. This had the aerodynamic effect of channelling all the air over the top of the bonnet once the car reached a speed of approximately 25 mph.
Above that speed, the cooling air to the radiator all comes in through the lower holes in the front valance.
The idea being that airflow over the car was smoothed, thus reducing drag, and that by picking up air from low down that would otherwise pass under the vehicle, front end lift was reduced.

Ah.. Thanks for that, I`d heard about the grill but not the purpose of the lower vents. Interesting.
