Capri 3.0 Ghia Auto For Sale Oyster Gold

Post by Lord Flasheart »

Posting this on here for a mate on the other forum.

If anyone is interested, drop me a PM & I'll pass on your / his contact details ;) ...... I would just say that anyone looking for a car with a huge amount of original or replacement genuine Ford parts, you will struggle to find better & certainly not at the money he is asking, personally I think he's underselling & possibly undervaluing it, especially given the current crazy prices being asked but he has priced it to sell.

Hi
With a degree of regret I am selling my 80% finished 1979 Capri 3.0 Ghia Auto. Corgi have made a model of this car for its Vanguards range so that's a cool proclaim.

It recently has been subject to a restoration using as much new old stock parts as I could get. Genuine Ford parts consist of new headlining, new gauges, new headlamps (all 4) new grill, new badge, new tail lights, new front and rear washer bottles, new plugs, oil pump and shaft, new radiator, correct black aerial, wipers, door seals, alloy wheel centre caps, rear view mirror, window winders, new indicators, new rear leaf springs, shocks, rear exhaust boxes and chrome trims and so so much much more - remember that is all gen Ford .

Non gen parts are bumpers, 4 bumper corners, all over-riders, parcel shelf, bonnet lip trim, all seats and interior are mint, no sagging and fronts have new bases so no sinking. Original stereo. Other parts include gen Ford mud flaps, nearly new original alloy wheels with 5 new Firestone tyres a lot of poly bushes to rear.

Resprayed approx 2 years ago at a cost of over £4400 it has been out once for a photoshoot for Retroford Magazine and stored ever since. The paint job was 95% perfect but a couple of very minor imperfections which I'm being highly critical about.

The engine was rebuilt at the same time- all components either renewed if needed, powder coated, zinc plated or polished such as timing cover. With the car will come new gen Ford tappets - try getting those ! Gen Ford push rods, new Kent cam valve springs and new Burton fast road cam and followers.

The engine is good and strong covered just 102k but I recommend fitting these to eliminate ate a little top end knock that has developed.
I've just fallen outer love with it purely and simply. I've spent thousands on it and it'll easily be a high five figure car when finished.

Very good history file too traced all the way back to day one. PM me if you're interested. Will need trailering away as not all parts fitted and no MOT. Located near Ashford in Kent.

Looking at valuation of Hagertys Classic Valuation Tool I may of undervalued it as an excellent model is £16600. I know insurance value is a little high, but with a weeks work his would be one of the best out there. So for a quick sale to a genuine enthusiast £12950 Ono

Hi,
It's a nice talking point if you have a car that Corgi have made a model of.
Obviously I'm not aware of the seller's personal circumstances, but you'd think it would be worth their while to complete the work needed to make it a lot easier to sell.
The car still looks great though.

Thanks for fixing the link mate.

I have told Jez that an MOT would help, as indeed would putting all the bits on the car & it should then really be priced for quite a bit more, however, after years of collecting Genuine NOS items & getting the car into a really fab condition with only genuine items & insisting on everything being standard, he has simply fallen out of love with it.

Mostly this was down to a couple of small area's of paint he wasn't happy with so it went back to the bodyshop for those area's to be re done, Jez wasn't 100% happy with it still & slowly got a bit down about it after all his efforts, seeing mine (no I am not bigging mine up ;) ) at the NEC last year didn't help.

He's having a complete break from Capri's & has already bought another old Beemer so although it would be much better as you guys say to put the Capri back together & MOT it, he just wants it gone .... sad really.

Keep your eyes peeled on eBay for when he sells off his extensive spares collection, will be a lot of 3.0 stuff

A guy in the XROC has just done the same with a Mk3 XR3.....Collected 100's of OE NOS Parts, stripped the car and had the shell repaired / painted. As he wasn't happy with the finish, he has sold the lot to another mate to complete, and bought a Civic Type R......I can see how this might happen!

Paint defects are a nightmare, especially when a 'Professional' has done the work, I speak from experience

If you want, I can pass on my mates e-mail address by PM so you can discuss directly what actually needs doing, I don't think its much, simple bolting bits back on I think or contact him via the ad on the link above

That goes for anyone seriously interested. It was featured in one of the Ford mags back in 2015 if I remember ;)

Hi,
It's a possibility that could happen. It's a pity that the seller didn't have the time to finish off the assembly of parts, as I feel that the car would have sold for quite a bit more than it did. The buyer could put in a few days work and make a good profit on the car.
I hope not though, as I'm sure it's the sort of Capri an enthusiast would love to own for the long term.

Agree 100%, I tried to get my mate to put it back together & put an MOT on it but the love had been lost & he has already bought its replacement so space was an issue, told him he was mad but it was his decision to sell it like that ...... the daft bugger :|

It will make someone very happy whoever it has gone / goes too

So what if a dealer did buy it, yes, it was extremely good value especially in todays over inflated market but it was open for anyone to buy and complete. There's no point in moaning about who's bought it and what they're planning to do with it.
As long as the seller and the new owner are both satisfied I don't see that it is anyone elses business. The car was for sale long enough for anyone to buy it.

Hi,
Martin's got a point.
Thinking about it, is there any difference between a dealer completing the car and selling it at a profit, and a new private buyer paying somebody else to do the work for them? Yes, the good people on this forum would have relished the opportunity to get stuck into the work, but not everybody has the space, skills, motivation, or whatever else, to do the required work themselves.
Either way, the car will eventually end up in the ownership of somebody who will cherish it.

Hi all,

Iv'e just found this post online and wanted to add that I'm the very excited new owner ( and not a dealer) of the car in question. Being a Ford man and having owned what can only be described as one of the best fully restored and original RS2000's in the country I just wanted to say that my intention is to return this Oyster Gold beauty back to its former glory and make this already fine example one of the best around - not taking anything away from Jez as he has made a wonderful job getting it this far. I'm really just doing the final touches. For those interested, she is already being reassembled and with good luck ( and an MOT) will be exhibited at "Classics on the green" Rickmansworth on Aug 2nd. If any Capri / Ford guys and Girls are planning on visiting, please check it out. As far as I know, it will its first outing in a couple of years and certainly the first in this part of the country. Maybe see you in a week or so?
Cheers

Hi Paul,
Welcome to the forum! :welcome:
As we've all said, you've bought yourself a stunner, and it's good to hear that you're an enthusiastic owner. Hopefully I'll get to see the car in person at some point in the future.

Good luck with the MOT!

Andrew.
