Is it a problem to remove the front wings from a Mk 1 facelift Michael

It would be if the owner caught you trying it.

Good joke I am the owner and need to remove them in order to re fabricate round the head lights and check for other rust spots any ideas ???

It depends, if you`ve worked in a bodyshop for 30 years it`s no problem: if you`ve never used an angle grinder it`s a massive problem.
This covers it, the mk1 will be basically the same.

Straightforward job for a body shop really, Especially if they've worked on older cars. Certainly, many people change the wings themselves.

The toughest part is trying to get pattern part wings to fit. Have you found a source ?

Hope to take them off and send them to Steadspeed restoration in Scotland. Spoke to owner who will restore them

Thanks for the update. You don't hear of that very often, taking original wings off, having them restored then put back on. Great idea.

It makes sense really, if you havethe skills (or know someone) as 95% of the panel is usually solid, it only needs very specific areas replacing. I`ve often thught it might be better to use parts of an aftermaret as repair plates for the original wing. Especially considering how hard it can be to get a proper fit.

Completely agree with you Steve, as you know I've repaired a wing previously. It's just that it is nice to see a make do and mend repair approach, as opposed to I'll Just buy a new one, which is more the philosophy of this modern age with most things.
