Yes mate but no luck there - have put ads on Capri Facebook pages and nothing to date - have managed to find one in Germany! At motomobil but waiting for them to get back to me as think it's for the facelift and MK2 / 3 models :-)

Hi Paul,
:goodluck: with the search, unfortunately this is often the issue now with the older Capri's etc :(

Try Colin on 07799693555 (collinsw1) on here.

Might have to look at an alternative part which would still work/fit, so at least it would keep your car on the road.

You could always change it for the correct part if one comes along at a future date.

Would a Mk3 Cortina or MK1 Escort one be the same? Might be a bit easier to find if so.

Hi Andy - been a while and hope you're well - will certainly give Colin a shout as this is proving a bit of a challenge!

Hi Paul - Sadly MK3 doesn't but MK2 Cortina or MK1 does - also think reliant scimitar series 1 does too - have tried a few clubs but no success as yet

There is a work around and may have to go down that route - though as it's pretty much end of the season can keep the search going - can still drive the car no problems but minus any cowling and starting without the ignition switch

Interesting as that's the ignition / lock switch not the barrel as the seller describes - I did initially think that's what the problem would be and traced a new old stock switch from a chap only a mile from where I live for £50! - once I took the old switch out - everything worked! But being the switch in the barrel itself the lock had seized - so removed that and the spring and bearings in the lock were also ok but the lock was still seized!! Huh?! Yep so may try a lock Smith and see if he can rebuild the lock in the barrel itself! Nightmare!

This sounds interesting as I have never played with this type of lock . Any chance to see some pictures as it must be a very old lock so made well .
I cleaned a safe lock set some years ago what I enjoyed and we did have to make some springs up but like clock springs very easy to do . Just interested .
Also I wonder if locks were more universal in the early 70s as we did all joke any key fits . So parts might be a little more easy

Best of luck with this

Jason

Hi Jason - the second photo is indeed interesting from the MK1 Escort - must admit it does look a little different - will try and get a picture up on here when I've worked out how to :-) the first picture is the ignition switch / lock and do have a couple of spares - glad I have if that's what folks want for them!

Crazy price for a lock I just don’t understand why prices are so high and when it will slow down a bit . I did think I might buy one and take a part to see if it can help but at that price I don’t think so .

But yes keep us posted and anybody watching should we be buying spare mk3 locks now ?

Spotted this today in the Capri magazine and thought of you as John is sorting out Mk1 keys so I would give him a ring again quick . Hope it works out for you or you have sorted the problem .

Advert in Capri magazine
